🇨🇳 China just torched the U.S. AI lead in a single afternoon.
Moonshot AI, a little-known Beijing startup, dropped Kimi K3 on Thursday and it instantly kicked into the top tier of global models.
It beat Anthropic's Fable 5 and OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol on coding tests, then edged out Opus 4.8 on a broader ranking while costing 40% less.
Now the knockout blow. On July 27, Moonshot is giving Kimi away as open-weight, so any company or government on Earth can download it and run it on their own machines. No subscription, no permission slip.
For months U.S. labs slept fine telling themselves China was 6 to 12 months behind. That head start just evaporated.
And Kimi doesn't even need to be the best model to win. Near the top, 40% cheaper, and yours to keep is what most buyers actually want.
That's the nightmare in Silicon Valley. The trillion-dollar valuations and hundred-billion-dollar data centers all rest on one bet: U.S. stays ahead.

Joe Kent: In any chaotic situation, the side that restores order wins.
Ending the escalation cycle w/Iran and restoring the free flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz must be our top priority—not only for the sake of our economy, but for America’s standing as a global superpower.
There is no military solution to this conflict. The air campaigns are not working & a ground campaign would be a strategic disaster, producing heavy American casualties while further destabilizing the region.
Continued escalation only worsens the damage to the U.S., our partners, and the global economy.
Killing the Ayatollah has backfired: instead of fracturing the regime, it’s unified Iranians—including many who previously opposed the IRGC & the government— to now rally around the flag and the IRGC.

❗️Israeli military experiencing deepening reserve force crisis, with some units facing 'de facto collapse'
Israeli Army Radio correspondent Doron Kadosh reported growing concerns within the Israeli military over the deteriorating state of the reserve system on 14 July, citing commanders who say reserve brigades and battalions deployed in Lebanon are operating far below full strength and that official mobilization figures present a misleading picture.
According to the report, reserve armored companies that previously operated with 10–12 tank crews are now functioning with significantly fewer operational tanks due to battlefield losses and damaged equipment requiring lengthy repairs. Because of these shortages, the military reportedly summons fewer reservists from the outset, artificially inflating mobilization rates, while many of those counted as reporting for duty only serve part of their deployments.
One reserve commander was quoted as saying:
The report cited several examples from the field, including a reserve company that recently completed operations in Lebanon with only one officer remaining in the entire company, forcing enlisted soldiers to fill command roles normally held by officers. Another reserve battalion in the occupied West Bank reportedly saw only two of its companies report for duty, requiring reinforcements from another reserve unit to fill operational gaps.
Kadosh also reported that an entire team of young commandos recently transferred to the reserves after completing active service informed commanders they could no longer continue serving due to exhaustion and academic pressures, with commanders ultimately approving their release from reserve duty.
Prolonged deployments since 7 October have placed severe strain on manpower, equipment, and command structures across parts of Israel's reserve forces.

"Reserve units today are hollow – a battalion is not a full battalion, and a company is not truly a company. The public and decision-makers hear about entire brigades in Lebanon, but in reality it is a much smaller force ... Parts of the reserve system are already de facto in a state of collapse."

'Go To Hell': JD Vance Accuses Israeli Officials Of Efforts To Keep War On Iran Raging
The vice president said an Israeli 'foreign influence campaign' directly sought to undermine his negotiations with Iran to end the war
US Vice President JD Vance on 15 July accused elements within Israel of trying to derail negotiations with Iran and manipulate US public opinion to keep the war going “indefinitely.”
“There are some people within their system, we know beyond a shadow of a doubt, who are manipulating and trying to change American public opinion to keep the war going on indefinitely,” Vance said while speaking on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast on Wednesday.
“Not toward any objective, but just indefinitely,” he stressed.
Vance said individuals linked to figures in the Israeli government orchestrated a campaign against him personally.
He cited a Time magazine investigation alleging that the Israeli government paid former US President Donald Trump campaign manager and “digital guru” Brad Parscale to run a high-dollar influence operation aimed at US conservatives.

❗️Major policy reversal: Colombia's incoming government to fully restore ties with Israel, open embassy in occupied Jerusalem
In a major foreign policy shift, Colombia's incoming government under President-elect Abelardo de la Espriella will fully restore diplomatic and economic relations with Israel immediately after taking office on 7 August, according to Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.
Following a meeting in Washington with Colombia's incoming foreign minister Omar Bula, both sides agreed on a roadmap that includes the immediate reappointment of ambassadors, the removal of mutual visa requirements, and the opening of a Colombian embassy in occupied Jerusalem.
The move marks a dramatic reversal of the policies pursued by outgoing President Gustavo Petro, who severed diplomatic relations with Israel in May 2024 and declared that Israel was committing genocide in Gaza.
Petro later ordered the opening of a Colombian embassy in Ramallah, while relations deteriorated further after both countries imposed reciprocal visa restrictions and Bogotá expelled remaining Israeli diplomatic and economic staff.
For decades prior to Petro's presidency, Colombia was considered one of Israel's closest allies in Latin America, maintaining extensive military and security cooperation, with Israel serving as a major supplier of military equipment, communications systems, Galil rifles, and aircraft to the Colombian armed forces.
Hamas strongly condemned the upcoming agreement, denouncing the resumption of relations and the decision to open an embassy in occupied Jerusalem as "an irresponsible decision," "an infringement on the rights of the Palestinian people," and "a retreat from the noble positions of the Colombian people in supporting just causes." The movement called on the incoming Colombian government to immediately reverse the decision and refrain from providing "any diplomatic cover or support" to Netanyahu's government amid its growing international isolation over its actions in Palestine and the wider region.

7/16 - Iran Warned Vance That Kushner, Witkoff Used Peace Talks As Cover For Insider Trading: Report
Officials calculated profits from insider trading on the war at $9 billion by June and formally demanded that half be allocated to Iran
Iranian negotiators sent a private warning to US Vice President JD Vance earlier this year, saying that US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were “abusing” their roles in the talks to profit from financial markets, Drop Site News reported on 16 July.
The Iranian negotiators sent the warnings to Vance through an intermediary during the late June talks in Lake Lucerne in Switzerland, telling him the pair cared more about profiting from insider knowledge of the negotiations than reaching a deal to end the war on Iran.
The negotiators also said that Kushner had been repeatedly leaking details of the talks to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with one US official telling Axios that Witkoff and Kushner “talk almost every day to Netanyahu” and the head of Mossad.
The Vance outreach came after Tehran had already tried to alert the White House to the pair's conduct, presenting evidence that “individuals close to [US] President [Donald] Trump” were abusing the war on Iran and diplomatic developments to manipulate financial markets, while warning of Witkoff's “overall destructive role in the previous negotiation.”
Financial analysts have observed a pattern since the war began in late February of speculative bets and unusually large positions in war-linked markets – oil futures, energy stocks, and prediction markets – often preceded by Trump announcements timed just before Monday trading opens in the US, fueling public suspicion of insider trading.

7/16 - 'Zionist Opposition' Makes Headway Ahead Of October Ballots As Netanyahu's Numbers Sink: Poll
The new poll comes weeks after a survey revealed that a majority of Israelis are opposed to the current premier’s re-election
A bloc of Israeli opposition groups led by the Yashar Party’s Gadi Eisenkot would win a majority of Knesset seats and be able to form a new government, according to a 15 July poll aired by Channel 13.
Former chief of staff Eisenkot’s party would manage to secure 21 seats, according to the Channel 13 survey. Current Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party – the largest political party in Israel – holds 22 seats.
The next three largest parties are all opposed to Netanyahu.
The poll places former premier Naftali Bennett’s Together party at 15 Knesset seats and Yair Golan’s so-called “left-wing” Democrats party at 11 seats.
Avigdor Liberman’s Yisrael Beytenu party would be given 10 seats, according to the survey.
