❗️Survey finds rising 'anti-semitic attitudes' among younger US citizens
A new survey found rising 'anti-Semitic attitudes' among younger US citizens, alongside limited willingness to take action against alleged perpetrated 'anti-Semitism.'
The poll by the Blue Square Alliance Against Hate showed that younger respondents were more likely than older generations to express negative views toward Jews and Israel. Among US respondents aged 18–44, 29% said Jews were a “threat to the unity of American society,” compared with 13% among those over 60. Among respondents aged 18–29, 13% said Jewish people “cause problems in the world,” compared with 3% of older respondents.
The survey also found that 52% of Gen Z respondents said Israel has a right to exist, while younger participants were more likely to say 'anti-Semitism' is exaggerated, that Jews should address it themselves, or to express doubts about the Holocaust.
At the same time, more respondents overall now view 'anti-Semitism' as a serious issue, with the share calling it a “major problem” rising from 40% in 2023 to 46%.
However, the survey found a gap between concern and action. While many respondents reported feeling sadness or anger after seeing reports of 'anti-Semitic hate crimes,' only 16% said they were motivated to take steps to combat future incidents. Meanwhile, 55% said “Jews can handle antisemitism on their own,” up from 40% in 2023.
