Pakistan, Kuwait Hold Early Talks On Defense-For-Energy Partnership

Kuwait joins a growing list of Gulf states pursuing defense ties with nuclear-armed Pakistan

Pakistan and Kuwait have entered early-stage negotiations to expand defense cooperation, with Islamabad seeking deeper energy ties and greater investment from the Gulf monarchy in return, Reuters reported on 17 July.

“Kuwait's wish list includes everything,” said a Pakistani security official familiar with the negotiations. “But let me be clear about one thing: We are not and we cannot consider a deployment of combat troops at this stage.”

One source confirmed the talks have covered defense procurement, but noted it was “not clear this will amount to a defense pact per se.”

In exchange for any deal, Islamabad wants expanded cooperation on energy security as it builds up its strategic oil and fuel reserves as part of a wider initiative led by Pakistan's Energy Ministry.

Over the past year, Pakistan and the Gulf monarchies have moved toward new regional defense arrangements.

Authorities are investigating whether Israelis used dual passports to enter the country, noting that Kuala Lumpur does not recognize Israel

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim declared on 15 July that any Israeli nationals found to be involved in the Network School “digital nomad” community will be deported immediately, highlighting that Malaysia does not recognize Israel.

“If any wrongdoing is found, action must be taken. If there are Israeli nationals involved, they will be deported immediately because Malaysia does not recognize Israel,” Anwar said at a community event on Wednesday.

The comments come after Israeli nationals allegedly entered Malaysia – where Israeli passport holders are barred from entry – by using second passports from other countries, and joining the Network School commune.

The commune is a “digital nomad” tech co-living hub in Forest City, Johor, founded by former Coinbase CTO Balaji Srinivasan.

While Israeli passport holders are barred from entering Malaysia, the country has no laws preventing dual citizens from traveling on non-Israeli passports.

Rep. Massie Joins Democrats In Attempt To Sue White House Over Iran War

The legislation aims to enforce a concurrent War Powers Resolution that was passed by Congress and directs the president to end the war

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) is joining a group of Democrats who are attempting to sue the White House over its refusal to follow a War Powers Resolution that was passed by Congress and directed President Trump to end the war with Iran, Fox News Digital reported on Monday.

The War Powers Resolution was passed by both the House and Senate in June, marking the first time Congress approved a concurrent resolution under the 1973 War Powers Act directing the termination of an unauthorized war.

Section 5(c) of the 1973 War Powers Act states that “at any time that United States Armed Forces are engaged in hostilities outside the territory of the United States, its possessions and territories without a declaration of war or specific statutory authorization, such forces shall be removed by the President if the Congress so directs by concurrent resolution.”

Massie told Fox that Trump and US War Secretary Pete Hegseth are “in blatant violation of two sections of the War Powers Resolution of 1973.”

“For the first time since the law was enacted, a concurrent resolution has passed in accordance with 5(c) of the law, but the White House has ignored it. It seems they’ve assumed the law is unconstitutional, but no court has ever found that to be the case, so the law remains on the books while the White House flouts it. In the 1983 case INS v. Chadha, the Supreme Court did not opine on the 1973 War Powers Resolution. It’s time for the courts to settle this, and that’s what our legislation directs,” Massie said.

Average Government Bidding Process — WECT Investigates Insider: Wilmington Awards $2.4-Million Contract To Firm Owned By Mayor’s Brother

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - WECT Investigative Reporter Connor Smith sits down with WHQR News Director Ben Schachtman to discuss his latest investigation , which looks into how the city of Wilmington awarded a $2.4 million contract for the Front Street Bridge project.

Wilmington said competing bidder for Front Street Bridge contract withdrew. The story is more complicated .

In February, a firm owned by Mayor Bill Saffo’s brother, Saffo Contractors, Inc., was awarded the contract. Initially, the city said Saffo Contractors was the lowest bidder, after a lower bid dropped out.

Public records, though, show the city had told that lower bidder, Paragon Building Corporation, it wasn’t eligible to bid, would have its bid rejected and was not a “responsible” bidder. Paragon’s bid had been $2.28 million, about $166,000 less than Saffo Contractors’ bid.

WHQR requested public records related to the project after the vote in February, and didn’t receive those emails until five months later.

An email from Daryle Parker, the city’s purchasing manager, to Paragon President Bob Morgan on December 23, 2025, acknowledged that Paragon was the lowest bidder, but said the bid was “not responsible based on Paragon’s performance on prior City projects.”

The letter cited concerns about past projects, including the Empie Fire Station Project, the Eastwood Road Multi-Use Path Project and renovations for the building that’s leased to the WMPO. Paragon pushed back on that determination by the city.

Mayor Saffo recused himself from the vote on the contract, which the rest of city council unanimously approved. The mayor didn’t respond to requests for comment for WHQR’s story, and the two councilmembers who did respond, David Joyner and J.C. Lyle, said they stood behind the city’s process and the ultimate decision council made.
