Israel is pressing the US to restart heavy airstrikes on Iran that would involve the targeted killing of Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, one of Tehran’s lead negotiators, and attacks on the country’s oil infrastructure, Capital & Empire reported on Thursday.

The report, which cited US sources familiar with a classified report circulating within the US intelligence community, said Israel is aggressively pushing for the US to abandon talks with Iran and insisting that destroying oil infrastructure in the country could bring about regime change while also downplaying the impact the renewed full-scale war will have on the global economy.

The New York Times previously reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had pitched President Trump on launching the war back in early February by making a series of predictions that proved to be wrong, including the idea that Iran was ripe for regime change, that its ballistic missile program could be destroyed within weeks, and that it would be too weak to close the Strait of Hormuz.

Israeli officials have been clear that they want to restart the US-Israeli bombing campaign and have threatened to kill Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei , who replaced his father, Ali Khamenei, after he was killed by an Israeli strike on February 28, the first day of the war.

The Capital & Empire report said that Israel has made the case to kill Ghalibaf directly to the US Department of War, and has focused on him since Khamenei’s whereabouts are unknown. The US intelligence report also determined that Israel wouldn’t target Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Israeli Claims About An Iran ‘Threat’ Were Always A Lie. Now We Have Proof

It is not Tehran led by unhinged, genocidal megalomaniacs threatening the security of the region and the world. It is Tel Aviv and Washington

Could it be that Israel’s 30-year narrative about Iran – one that persuaded US President Donald Trump to wage a criminal and disastrous war of aggression – was always a fiction, an invention cooked up in Tel Aviv?

Far from Tehran posing an existential danger to Israel, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed for decades, might Israel’s real fear be that a stronger Iran would undermine its unique leverage over Washington, threatening its status as the region’s sole – and unmonitored – nuclear power?

Might large parts of the globe be facing economic meltdown simply so that Israel can remain the Middle East’s top dog – an unaccountable apartheid state committing genocide against the Palestinian people and ethnically cleansing southern Lebanon?

We got a definitive answer last week, care of the New York Times . It is an uncompromising yes to all of these questions.

The newspaper reported that Netanyahu not only mis-sold Trump on the idea of quick regime change in Iran following a short “shock and awe” bombing campaign. He also identified to the White House who was going to replace Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme religious leader.

Extraordinarily, according to the Times, Netanyahu named the man for the job as former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The aim at the start of the air campaign was for Israel to kill Khamenei, then liberate Ahmadinejad from house arrest by striking the guards who were confining him.

Presumably, Ahmadinejad was then supposed to storm the citadel and seize the keys to the palace. But only Khamenei’s assassination went according to plan.

Ahmadinejad, who had reportedly been consulted on the scheme beforehand, is believed to have been injured in the Israeli strike near his home. He got cold feet, possibly suspecting he was being set up for assassination too, and went into hiding. His current whereabouts and medical condition are unknown.

Ultimate bogeyman

Neither US nor Israeli officials would comment to the Times on the alleged regime-change plot, a scheme that the newspaper called “audacious”. That is the understatement of all understatements.

Ghalibaf Says Iran Will Be In ‘Direct Confrontation’ With Israel If It Doesn’t Halt Attacks On Lebanon

Trump has suggested some sort of ceasefire was reached but Israeli attacks continue in southern Lebanon

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Monday that Iran would be in a “direct confrontation with the enemy” if Israel doesn’t halt its attacks in Lebanon.

Ghalibaf made the comments in a post on X recounting a conversation he had with Nabih Berri, the speaker of Lebanon’s parliament and leader of the Amal Movement, a Shia political faction that’s largely aligned with Hezbollah.

“In my conversation with my brother, President Nabih Berri, I affirmed that if the Israeli aggression against Lebanon continues, we will not only halt the path of negotiations, but we will also be in direct confrontation with the enemy,” Ghalibaf said in Arabic.

“Long live the Resistance. Long live the defense of the land. And long live the brotherhood between the Lebanese and Iranian peoples,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Iranian media reported that Tehran halted negotiations with Washington over Israel’s continued attacks and escalations in Lebanon. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Israel planned to launch strikes in Beirut’s southern suburbs, but appeared to have backed down after a call with President Trump. Iran had also warned that it could target northern Israel if Netanyahu went ahead with the strikes.

California Assembly Passes Under-16 Social Media Ban

Buried past the 76-to-0 vote is a clause letting the Attorney General widen who counts as a "covered platform' without the Legislature voting again.

California’s Assembly voted 76 to 0 on May 28 to push forward a bill that would bar anyone under 16 from holding a social media account and the system that makes such a ban work easily reshapes the internet for everyone else. Assembly Bill 1709 now moves to the state Senate.

To stop under-16s from creating accounts, a platform first has to figure out who is and is not 16, which means running some form of age check on every person who signs up, regardless of how old they are.

Assemblyman Josh Lowenthal, who wrote the bill, presents it as a response to platforms that he says are harming young people. Social media, he told reporters, is “wreaking havoc on the minds of our youth,” and the companies behind it “have adopted design choices that malignantly target users’ neurological systems, leading to addiction, depression, and, in grave circumstances, death.”

The bill text says the state “has a compelling interest in protecting children and adolescents” from products it describes as built to exploit how young people develop.
