China Blasts Israeli Lawmakers' Visit To Taiwan As 'despicable Provocation'

Chinese officials accused the Knesset delegation of damaging China–Israel relations by meeting senior Taiwanese officials

China’s Embassy in Israel strongly condemned a visit by Israeli Knesset members to Taiwan on 6 May, saying that MK Boaz Toporovsky and several others violated the “one-China principle” and damaged the foundation of China–Israel relations after the lawmakers met with senior Taiwanese officials.

There is but one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory,” the embassy said, adding that the government in Beijing is “the sole legal government representing the whole of China.

The Chinese Embassy said Toporovsky, “together with several other MKs,” had “once again visited Taiwan and made erroneous remarks regarding the Taiwan question.

These have seriously violated the one-China principle and undermined the political foundation of China-Israel relations,” the embassy said.

Israeli Soldiers Admit Killing Palestinians In Gaza 'no Matter The Age, Even If Unarmed'

Israeli soldiers and snipers have targeted Palestinian men, women, and children throughout more than two years of genocide

The Israeli army ordered its troops to kill any males they encountered in Gaza, including the unarmed and the elderly, during the genocide of Palestinians that began in 2023, according to a 7 May investigative report aired on Israel’s Channel 13.

A man, no matter what age, don’t play games with it; kill immediately,” one soldier said he was told by his commanders.

They even told us that if it’s a woman or a child, use your judgment, because things happen,” he added, speaking anonymously.

His testimony was given to Iris Haim, the mother of an Israeli soldier taken captive by Hamas on 7 October 2023.

Yotam Haim was killed by Israeli forces in Gaza after approaching their positions during an attempt to escape alongside two other captives in December 2023.

12/5 — Netanyahu Selects His Military Secretary As New Mossad Chief Roman Gofman will replace David Barnea, who oversaw the pager terror attacks in Lebanon and the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu selected…
Mossad Chief Warns Top Court Netanyahu Pick Could Cause Israel 'Enormous Damage'

Outgoing Mossad chief David Barnea warned Israel's High Court of Justice in a letter against appointing Roman Gofman as head of the intelligence agency, saying the move could cause "serious damage" to an organization operating with limited oversight and raise serious ethical concerns tied to a case involving a minor, Israeli media reported.

The warning centered on the case of Ori Elmakayes, a minor who was allegedly recruited as an intelligence source outside authorized military channels, which led to his wrongful imprisonment. Barnea wrote that if Gofman knew about the teen's recruitment or arrest, it would constitute "a serious moral problem" disqualifying him from leading the Mossad, while ignorance of the operation's details would point to "an even more severe" failure of oversight.

In the letter, first published by i24, Barnea wrote that "in the current reality where the Mossad operates without supervision or oversight, the risk is very great." According to him, activity contrary to procedures could "endanger Mossad operatives, the organization, and even cause immense damage to the State of Israel." Barnea referred to what he called an attempt to bypass the authority of the unit responsible for operating agents on behalf of the army.

"If such an incident had occurred in the Mossad, where a department head not specializing in operating agents took the liberty to do so, he would have been held accountable immediately," he wrote. "I will argue that whoever knowingly violated procedures must know how the offense he was aware of developed, and how the operation he unlawfully approved progressed. If he did not know the details of the operation and did not follow its development, there is another, far more severe problem here – which certainly does not allow Gofman to head the Mossad," he added.

According to Barnea, "the Elmakayes incident could be a pattern of a senior officer pushing the limits, who views procedures as stopping him from carrying out activities he deems necessary for Israel's security."

The outgoing Mossad director wrote that "if he believes that bypassing procedures and norms can help the country's security, this is a pattern that could develop into a serious danger if he becomes Mossad director." Barnea added that the case embodies "the worst level of decision-making and integrity."

Barnea wrote that a Mossad director must uphold high moral standards, exercise sound judgment and strictly follow procedures and the law. He said Gofman's appointment was unacceptable regardless of whether he knew about the youth's recruitment operation, and also addressed the army's role in the Elmakayes case.

Trump and Rubio's Escalating Rhetoric Show a Cuba Invasion Could be Imminent - Axios

President Trump is increasing pressure on Cuba's government, elevating concerns that his continued threats to invade the Caribbean island could become reality.

Why it matters: A U.S. invasion of Cuba would mark the most dramatic confrontation between Washington and Havana since the 1962 missile crisis — and the boldest test yet of Trump's campaign to expand America's influence in the Western Hemisphere under his version of the Monroe Doctrine.

State of play: U.S. surveillance and reconnaissance flights have surged off Cuba's coast since February, according to a CNN review of flight data published this week.

- The U.S. imposed additional sanctions on Havana last Thursday, prompting the country's foreign minister to describe the measures as a "collective punishment of a genocidal nature."

- The island is also facing a worsening humanitarian crisis that Cuban officials have blamed on a U.S. "energy blockade," which prevents oil suppliers from serving the island.

- And the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro further deteriorated local conditions by cutting Cuba off from a key oil supplier.

...Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in a military operation in Cuba, suggesting Friday that an aircraft carrier returning to the U.S. from Iran could be stationed offshore.

He said the carrier could "come in, stop about 100 yards offshore, and they'll say: 'Thank you very much. We give up.'"

...What we're watching: Arcos noted that Cuban Independence Day, which marks the end of U.S. occupation of the island, is May 20.

He said something could happen then
, adding, "There's definitely a sense of expectation and anxiety in Miami and Cuba."

Ukraine To Israel: We Are Fighting The Same Axis Of Evil

A Ukrainian diplomat said to the Israeli press that Tel Aviv is missing an opportunity to save the lives of its soldiers by working with Kiev on anti-drone technology.

Speaking with Ynet about Kiev’s anti-drone capabilities, Ukraine’s ambassador to Israel, Yevgen Korniychuk, said, “We are fighting from a different angle against the same axis of evil.

Unfortunately, we do not see much interest or appetite from the Israeli leadership in this field. I do not want to speculate about the reasons for that. I am very sorry to hear reports about soldiers who were hit by drones, because we suffer from exactly the same thing.” He added, “When meeting people from different parts of Israeli society, I often hear frustration over the fact that Israel is missing an opportunity to save more of its soldiers’ lives. Most Israelis support Ukraine and do not understand why Ukrainians are able to deal with drones and Israel is not.

Israel has faced thousands of drone attacks by Iran and Hezbollah. Over the past month, Hezbollah has released dozens of videos of its drones targeting Israeli soldiers occupying southern Lebanon.

Ukraine has sent about 200 drone experts to the Middle East to help the US and Arab states take down Iranian drones. Russia has used a variant of an Iranian drone during the war in Ukraine.

Komiychuk lamented that while some Arab countries were willing to accept Ukraine’s assistance, Israel was not. “As you know, President Zelensky recently made several regional visits in the Middle East, mainly to discuss security cooperation and advancing peace,” he said. “I worked hard to create direct political contact for our leadership. However, you cannot come to someone’s home without an invitation.

Turkiye Seeks To Install Radars In Syria To 'limit' Israel: Report Israel has complete freedom of action over Syrian airspace, including to attack Iran Turkiye has attempted to deploy radars on Syrian territory in recent weeks, the Jerusalem Post reported…
Turkiye Unveils First Homegrown Intercontinental Missile Amid Escalating Rhetoric From Israel

Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett stated in March that Turkiye will be targeted 'next' after Iran

Turkiye unveiled a prototype of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on 5 May, as Ankara seeks to become militarily self-reliant and to raise its standing as a player in the defense industry in West Asia and Europe.

The Turkish Defense Ministry unveiled the missile at the SAHA 2026 Defense and Aerospace Exhibition at the Istanbul Expo Center.

The Yildirimhan, or “lightning” ballistic missile, developed by the Defense Ministry’s research and development center, has a reported range of 6,000 km, enabling it to strike targets in Europe, Africa, and Asia.

It has a maximum speed of Mach 25 and a payload capacity of 3,000kg.

At the unveiling, Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler stated that the missile was developed in the face of conflicts, such as the war between Russia and Ukraine and the US-Israeli war on Iran.

“These conflicts and wars have provided very critical data for security doctrine while also increasing our responsibilities,” Guler said.

“In this era where economic cost has become an asymmetric weapon, Turkey offers its allies not only weapon systems but also technology and a sustainable security economy,” Guler added.

In March, former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett described Turkiye as a "new strategic threat" to Israel and hinted at possible military action against Ankara. “The choice is up to Turkiye," the Israeli opposition leader said, warning that “after Iran, we won't stay idle.”

When Iran was retaliating against the US-Israeli strikes by attacking US military bases across the Gulf region, Ankara reported that NATO’s air defenses shot down several ballistic missiles fired towards Turkiye.

Iran denied firing any missiles at Turkiye and suggested Israel could be behind the attacks.

Turkiye has so far developed a number of short-range missiles and introduced its first hypersonic missile, Tayfun Block 4, last year.

Turkiye plans to spend $27.34 billion on defense in 2026, a 33 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Ankara has expressed frustration over the failure of the US and Europe to provide it with adequate defense systems against missile threats, despite Turkiye's admission to NATO more than 70 years ago.

After the US excluded Turkiye from the F-35 warplane program, Ankara began the development of the KAAN fifth-generation fighter jet, now in the prototype stage. It also developed the Altay main battle tank, which began production in 2025.

Ankara also plans to produce new submarines and air-defense destroyers for its navy.

Iran Now Defines Strait Of Hormuz As Far Larger Zone, IRGC Officer Says

Iran has expanded its definition of the Strait of Hormuz into a "vast operational area" far wider than before the Iran war, ‌according to a senior officer in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy.

The strait is no longer viewed as a narrow stretch around a handful of islands but instead has been greatly enlarged in scope and military significance, said Mohammad Akbarzadeh, deputy political director of the IRGC Navy, the state-affiliated Fars news agency reported on Tuesday.

"In the past, the Strait of Hormuz was defined as a limited area around islands such as Hormuz and Hengam, but today this view has changed,” Akbarzadeh said

Iranian authorities did not reply to a Reuters request for immediate comment
.
About a fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas supply normally passes through the strait, which is the gateway to the Gulf and main export route for countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Qatar.

❗️Thirty US lawmakers demand transparency on Israel’s nuclear arsenal

In a letter sent on 4 May to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, 30 Democratic members of Congress called on the Trump administration to end its longstanding policy of ambiguity regarding Israel’s nuclear weapons, arguing that Congress has a constitutional duty to understand the nuclear balance in West Asia amid the US-Israeli war on Iran. They requested detailed information on Israel’s estimated stockpile, its nuclear doctrine, possible red lines for use, and whether Washington has received assurances that such weapons will not be deployed.

The lawmakers pointed to the Negev Nuclear Research Center in Dimona as the core of Israel’s nuclear program and cited public estimates that Israel possesses around 90 nuclear warheads, a large plutonium stockpile, submarine-based launch capabilities, and long-range ballistic missiles. They argued that shielding one state’s nuclear arsenal while demanding that Iran forgo such capabilities undermines any coherent non-proliferation policy across the region.

Baghaei said the US side continues to insist on positions largely shaped by the Zionist regime, maintaining what he described as a unilateral approach and a set of demands that remain fundamentally irrational.

❗️‘A New Nakba in Jerusalem’: Israel is accelerating the destruction of Silwan to encircle Al-Aqsa with settlements and biblical parks

A detailed report by Middle East Eye says Israel has sharply intensified home demolitions in the Palestinian neighborhood of Silwan in occupied East Jerusalem, particularly in Al-Bustan, just south of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Since October 2023, at least 54 homes have been demolished there alone, with most of the remaining houses now under threat. Residents warn that nearly 20,000 Palestinian homes across Jerusalem are currently under demolition orders.

The demolitions are designed to clear Palestinians from strategic neighborhoods surrounding Al-Aqsa and replace them with settler compounds and biblical-themed tourist parks such as the “King’s Garden” and the “City of David.” Al-Bustan, home to around 1,500 Palestinians, is seen as crucial to linking settler enclaves in Silwan and integrating them into what Israeli authorities seek to normalize as part of West Jerusalem.

According to researchers and residents cited by Middle East Eye, the process is not about urban planning but about reshaping Jerusalem’s demography and erasing Palestinian presence.

Settler organizations such as Elad and Ateret Cohanim, described as functioning with extensive state backing, are leading efforts to remove Palestinian families through court actions, demolitions, and archaeological projects rooted in nationalist-religious narratives.

Palestinians say the world’s focus on Gaza has given Israel a free hand to accelerate what residents call a “new Nakba” in Jerusalem. “If there is no real action, there will be a new Nakba for the people of Jerusalem,” longtime Silwan activist Fakhri Abu Diab warned, saying the destruction of Silwan would sever Palestinian communities from Al-Aqsa and permanently transform the city around Islam’s third holiest site.
