❗️FT: Iran acquired Chinese spy satellite to track US bases

Iran covertly obtained a Chinese spy satellite in late 2024 that enabled it to track US military bases across West Asia during the US-Israeli war on Tehran, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday.

According to the report, the TEE-01B satellite, developed and launched by Chinese firm Earth Eye Co, was acquired by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force after being sent into orbit from China, citing leaked Iranian military documents.

The newspaper alleged Iranian commanders used the satellite to observe key US military installations, referencing time-stamped coordinates, satellite imagery, and orbital data. Images were reportedly captured in March both before and after drone and missile strikes on those sites.

As part of the arrangement, the IRGC was reportedly granted access to commercial ground stations run by Beijing-based Emposat, which provides satellite control and data services across Asia, Latin America, and other regions, the report added.

When questioned, the Chinese embassy in Washington told the FT: "we firmly oppose relevant parties spreading speculative and insinuative disinformation against China."

The satellite reportedly captured images of Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia on 13, 14, and 15 March.

The report added that the satellite also tracked the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, as well as areas near the US Fifth Fleet naval base in Manama, Bahrain, and Erbil airport in Iraqi Kurdistan, around the time of IRGC-claimed attacks on those locations.

Hezbollah resistance fighters are fiercely confronting the Israeli military’s attempts to capture the strategic southern city of Bint Jbeil, inflicting heavy losses on invading troops, Hebrew media reports have confirmed.

Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported on 15 April that Hezbollah’s operations in the besieged city were “exacting a toll” on the Israeli army.

“Despite advancing under heavy fire cover from both land and air in an attempt to avoid casualties, the talk is about a densely built-up area, just like in the Gaza Strip, and therefore, close-range clashes cannot be completely avoided,” it said.

Days earlier, Israeli media had said that Bint Jbeil – a highly strategic city which links south Lebanon’s eastern and western sectors – was close to being captured, claiming hundreds of resistance fighters were killed.

Yet Hezbollah retains a significant presence in Bint Jbeil and is targeting Israeli forces encircling the city.

Iran Used Chinese Satellite To Monitor, Strike US Bases: Report

The system was reportedly transferred under an 'in-orbit delivery' deal and provided high-resolution imagery

The Financial Times (FT) reported on 15 April that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) obtained a Chinese-built satellite in late 2024 and used it during the recent war to monitor and target US military sites across West Asia.

Leaked Iranian military documents cited by FT show the satellite, TEE-01B, was launched from China and later transferred to the IRGC Aerospace Force under an “in-orbit delivery” arrangement with Chinese firm Earth Eye Co.

The system reportedly provided high-resolution imagery and was linked to ground infrastructure operated by Beijing-based Emposat.

According to the report, Iranian commanders tasked the satellite to track US-linked locations before and after strikes.

Time-stamped imagery showed surveillance of Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia on 13–15 March, with US President Donald Trump confirming damage to aircraft at the site on 14 March.

The satellite also tracked Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, areas near the US Fifth Fleet base in Bahrain, Erbil airport in Iraq, and sites across Kuwait, Oman, Djibouti, and the UAE during IRGC-claimed operations.

Experts cited in the report said the system marked a major upgrade.

Nicole Grajewski noted that “this satellite is clearly being used for military purposes,” adding that it allows Iran to “identify targets ahead of time and check the success of its strikes.”

The agreement, valued at roughly $36.6 million, gave the IRGC access to global ground stations, enabling remote control of the satellite and reducing vulnerability to attacks on domestic infrastructure.

Former analyst Jim Lamson described it as a “dispersion strategy,” noting that satellite control stations in foreign countries are harder to target.

Chinese officials rejected claims that Chinese companies supported Iran’s military use of the satellite.


... Separately, a CNN report on 11 April said US intelligence believes China is preparing to send shoulder-fired air defense systems to Iran in the coming weeks, a claim Beijing also denied, insisting it “has never provided weapons to any party” and calling the allegation untrue.

Prominent US broadcaster Tucker Carlson has sharply condemned the British government’s decision to ban the direct action group Palestine Action, accusing them of sliding into political repression over criticism of Israel.

In an interview with the BBC, Carlson dismissed the authority of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, claiming he does not meaningfully control the country’s decision-making. Pressed by presenter Victoria Derbyshire, the former Fox News host framed the move as part of a broader pattern of western subservience. Carlson went further, asserting that both Starmer and Donald Trump are beholden to forces that dictate policy on Israel, alleging that public support for Palestine Action or criticism of Israel in Britain now risks criminal prosecution.

"Keir Starmer is every bit as enslaved as Donald Trump is. It is illegal - it is a crime for which you can be arrested - in Britain right now, criticizing Israel. If you say you're for Palestine Action, you can be arrested." he said.

In the UK, the government’s 2025 decision to ban Palestine Action under anti-terror laws has led to mass arrests and a wider crackdown on pro-Palestine expression. Publicly supporting the group, even by holding signs, became a criminal offense, resulting in thousands of arrests, including over 500 people detained at a single London protest in April 2026 alone.

Turkey To Require National ID For Social Media Accounts

Turkey's government just found a way to put a national ID card on every tweet, post, and comment its citizens make online.

Every social media account in Turkey is about to be tied to a government-issued identity number. Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced on April 3 that global platforms have agreed to the system and that a three-month transition begins once legislation passes parliament. Accounts that remain unverified get shut down.

“Social media will now be accessed with real information and personal identity. We have reached an agreement with social media platforms,” Gürlek said. He didn’t name which companies signed on.

The plan requires users to submit their TC Kimlik number, the unique 11-digit identifier assigned to every Turkish citizen from birth, linked to government databases containing names, birth dates, family records, and biometric data. Gürlek framed anonymous accounts as engines of disinformation and harassment. “If someone insults others or carries out a smear campaign online, they must face the consequences,” he said.

The official justification doesn’t survive contact with Turkey’s own record. Cybersecurity specialists have pointed out that IP addresses and internet access logs already let authorities trace anonymous users. The government doesn’t need your national ID on every post. It needs you to know it’s there.

The Republican-led US Senate voted 52-47 to block a resolution that would have forced a withdrawal from the war on Iran, marking the fourth time this year lawmakers have effectively handed war-making authority to President Donald Trump.
