❗️Malaysia says its ships will not have to pay toll to transit Strait of Hormuz

Malaysia’s government has confirmed that several of its vessels waiting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz will be allowed to transit without paying any tolls to Iran, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said on Tuesday. The assurance came after Iran’s ambassador informed Malaysian officials that the country is regarded as a “friendly nation,” and no transit fees will be imposed on its ships.

Loke spoke amid wider regional tensions and disruptions to global shipping linked to the ongoing US‑Israeli war on Iran, which has led Tehran to restrict most vessel movement through the crucial waterway. While many global carriers remain stranded, Iranian authorities have been selectively permitting ships from certain countries to pass without charges.

The Malaysian government dismissed online claims that its vessels would face steep tolls, saying all transit will be toll‑free under current arrangements.

❗️Bahrain revises UN draft on Strait of Hormuz

Bahrain has distributed an updated draft resolution at the UNSC aimed at safeguarding commercial shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz, keeping wording that allows “all necessary means” but removing a direct reference to binding enforcement measures.

Bahrain’s earlier draft had specifically cited Chapter VII of the UN Charter, which permits the Security Council to authorize actions ranging from sanctions to military intervention.

The revised version seen by Reuters, which diplomats say remains under discussion, omits the Chapter VII reference but preserves similar language. It would permit states, acting independently or via voluntary multinational naval coalitions, to use “all necessary means commensurate with the circumstances” in the Strait of Hormuz, the Gulf, and the Gulf of Oman.

The draft also urges countries that depend on commercial shipping routes through the strait to coordinate defensive measures, including escorting merchant vessels.

Any vessel that fails to adhere to Iran's laws regarding passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be seized by the Islamic Republic’s forces, a member of the Iranian Majlis (Parliament) said.

“The toll for crossing the strait will be charged in the Iranian national currency, the rial,” the Majlis member said. “The era of free passage through the Strait of Hormuz is over,” he noted.
