Sen. Blumnethal Says He’s ‘Fearful’ Trump Will Put ‘Boots On The Ground’ In Iran

Both Trump and Hegseth wouldn't rule out the idea of sending troops into Iran

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) said on Tuesday that he was “fearful” that the Trump administration would put “boots on the ground” in Iran as the war the US and Israel launched on Saturday continues to escalate.

“I just want to say that I am more fearful than ever after this briefing that we may be putting boots on the ground and that troops from the United States may be necessary to accomplish objectives that the administration seems to have,” Blumenthal told reporters after attending a closed-door briefing with Trump officials.

The senator added that it was still unclear what the US’s goal was in Iran. “But I also am no more clear on what the priorities are going to be of the administration going forward, whether it is destroying the nuclear capacity of Iran or simply the missiles or regime change or stopping terrorist activities,” he said, adding that the administration must share more information with the American public.

Both President Trump and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth have not ruled out the idea of sending troops into Iran, and media reports in the weeks leading up to the start of the war said that deploying a team of commandos into the country was under consideration.

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) said after the briefing that US military operations in Iran sound “quite large,” comments he made after initially defending President Trump’s decision to start the war.

Israel Orders Displacement Of All Lebanese Citizens Below Litani River

Israeli troops are demanding the forced displacement of around 200,000 Lebanese citizens, after uprooting tens of thousands in the last few days alone

The Israeli military released a statement on 4 March issuing forced displacement orders for the entire area south of the Litani River in southern Lebanon, marking a major escalation of the ground incursion launched a day earlier.

The Israeli army’s Arabic spokesman Avichay Adraee threatened all residents of south Lebanon to “immediately move north of the Litani River.”

“Any home used by Hezbollah for military purposes may be subject to targeting,” the military spokesman added.

Israel said a day earlier that it began a ground maneuver in the south, describing it as a “forward defense” measure. Tel Aviv issued a call for its forces to occupy additional areas, while Hezbollah announced the targeting of several Merkava tanks.

The Israeli army is now expected to continue pushing upward toward the Litani River, which it has been aiming to turn into a buffer zone for years.

During the October 2024 ground invasion, Israeli troops were not able to significantly hold ground or occupy any towns due to fierce resistance from Hezbollah. They only briefly reached one part of the river a day ahead of the ceasefire, before pulling back and occupying several areas deeper south following the cessation of Hezbollah military activities.

The area below the river is home to around 200,000 Lebanese citizens.

❗️Minab schoolgirls massacre was deliberate US-Israeli attack intended to inflict maximum civilian casualties

On the morning of 28 February missiles struck the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ school in Minab, southern Iran, killing at least 165 people, most of them girls aged 7 to 12, and wounding at least 95 others. Despite claims linking the site to nearby military facilities, satellite imagery and historical analysis show the school had operated independently as a civilian institution for over a decade, with separate entrances, playgrounds, and classrooms.

Videos analyzed from the strike confirm two distinct missile impacts: one on the adjacent military base and one directly on the school.

According to an investigation by Al Jazeera, the massacre fits a documented pattern in US and Israeli operations, from Baghdad to Gaza, where schools, hospitals, and shelters have repeatedly been hit, followed by immediate denials or misattributions. In Minab, the attack was likely deliberate, and designed to inflict maximum civilian casualties to undermine public morale and send a stark warning amid ongoing US-Israeli attacks on the Islamic Republic.

Fury As Marco Rubio Admits Israel Forced US Into War With Iran: 'the Worst Possible Thing'

The US launched preemptive strikes against Iran after learning Israel was about to attack — and American troops in the region faced an imminent threat of retaliation, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Monday.

'There absolutely was an imminent threat,' Rubio stated. 'And the imminent threat was that we knew that if Iran was attacked, and we believed they would be attacked, that they would immediately come after us, and we were not going to sit there and absorb a blow before we responded.'

'We went proactively in a defensive way to prevent them from inflicting higher damage,' he said.
