❗️Belgium announces arms embargo against Israel

Belgium has banned aircraft carrying weapons or military equipment to Israel from using its airspace or making technical stopovers, the Foreign Ministry announced. The move, initiated by Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot, requires operators to disclose full transport details for any flights carrying military goods destined for Israel, according to Le Soir.

The measure is intended to prevent the transfer of weapons and military equipment to Israel and to close legal loopholes that previously allowed so called non stop transit flights to bypass scrutiny. Belgian authorities said customs services and the Federal Public Service for Mobility and Transport will oversee inspections and enforcement.

While arms export licenses in Belgium are issued by regional governments, transport and transit fall under federal authority. As a result, the federal embargo effectively blocks the use of regional export permits by denying airspace access and transit approval.

Trump is turning up the pressure on Iraq in his campaign to destabilize Iran

Washington has threatened to block Iraq's access to its own oil revenue held in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York if representatives of Shia armed parties enjoying support from Iran are included in the next government, Reuters reported on 23 January.

"The US warning was delivered repeatedly over the past two months by the US Charges d'Affaires in Baghdad, Joshua Harris, in conversations with Iraqi officials and influential Shi'ite leaders," Reuters reported, citing three Iraqi officials and one source familiar with the matter.

The threat is part of US President Donald Trump's effort to weaken Iran through a "maximum pressure" campaign of economic sanctions, including on the Islamic Republic's oil exports...

Because of US sanctions, few countries can trade with Iran, increasing its reliance on Iraqi markets for exports and on Baghdad's banking system as a monetary outlet to the rest of the world.

The White House has discussed imposing a total blockade on oil imports to Cuba as part of an effort to promote regime change in the Caribbean nation, Politico reported on 23 January, citing three people familiar with the matter.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio is behind the proposal, according to the sources.

US President Donald Trump stated last week that the US would end Venezuela's shipments of oil to Cuba, which account for 60 percent of the island nation's oil consumption.

Havana has sought to replace subsidized Venezuelan oil with purchases from Mexico at higher market rates to stave off an economic crisis. Cuba sold some of the oil provided by Caracas for the foreign currency needed to import food and machine parts amid harsh US sanctions.

Trump abducted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on 3 January, called himself “acting president,” and is personally managing the revenues of shipments of Venezuelan oil recently sold by Washington.

Clashes Continue Between Syrian Forces, Kurdish-Led SDF Despite Ceasefire Extension

Factions affiliated with Syria's Ministry of Defense continued their attacks on Kurdish forces in the Kobani countryside on Sunday

A 15-day ceasefire extension was reached on 24 January between Syria’s Defense Ministry and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in northeast Syria, amid ongoing clashes in the Ain al-Arab (Kobani) countryside.

Authorities in Damascus said the extension was intended to support a US-led operation to evacuate ISIS prisoners from SDF-run prisons to Iraq.

The SDF also issued a statement confirming that an agreement to extend the ceasefire had been reached, affirming their commitment to the deal as a step toward de-escalation, civilian protection, and stability.

Government troops loyal to Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, the former Al-Qaeda and ISIS leader, have seized swathes of northern and eastern territory in the last two weeks in an effort to crush the Kurdish-dominated Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).

SDF fighters from the Arab-majority and tribal areas of northeast Syria abandoned the SDF’s Kurdish leadership, allowing Sharaa’s forces to take full control of Raqqa and Deir Ezzor Governorates. The SDF retains control of Hasakah city, which has a large Kurdish minority, and Qamishli, which has a Kurdish majority.
