Rich ‘Sniper Tourists’ Allegedly Paid $90K to Shoot Civilians — Including Kids — During ‘Human Safari’ Trips to Sarajevo — New York Post
Wealthy “sniper tourists” allegedly paid upward of $90,000 to shoot people during “human safari” trips to Sarajevo in the 1990s — with an extra fee to kill children, according to wild claims being probed by Italian prosecutors.
The investigation was sparked after an Italian writer alleged he had uncovered evidence that wealthy gun enthusiasts — dubbed “sniper tourists” — would pay Bosnian Serb forces for the chance to gun down residents at random during the four-year siege of the city, the Guardian reported.
More than 10,000 were killed in Sarajevo by snipers and shelling between 1992 and 1996 during the Balkan Wars.
“There were Germans, French, English … people from all Western countries who paid large sums of money to be taken there to shoot civilians,” said Ezio Gavazzeni, the investigative writer.
“There were no political or religious motivations. They were rich people who went there for fun and personal satisfaction. We are talking about people who love guns who perhaps go to shooting ranges or on safari in Africa.”
Gavazzeni said he first read reports of the alleged tourist-led shootings in Italian media outlets in the ’90s, but started digging deeper after watching a 2022 documentary about a former Serb soldier who claimed foreigners would shoot at residents from the hills in Sarajevo.
He claims a key source was a former Bosnian intelligence officer.
The newly launched probe, being led by prosecutors in Milan, is seeking to identify any Italians involved in the so-called sniper tourism.
Gavazzeni said he had already uncovered the identities of some of the Italians allegedly involved in the massacre and they are expected to be questioned by prosecutors in the coming weeks.
The Bosnian Consulate in Milan said the Bosnian government would offer “total collaboration” amid the probe.
“We are impatient to discover the truth about such a cruel matter in order to close a chapter of history. I am in possession of certain information I will be sharing with the investigators,” a spokesperson said.

Polish MP Maciej Konieczny told parliament on 21 November that Europe cannot secure enough TNT for its own defense or for Ukraine because Nitro-Chem, Poland’s sole producer and the continent’s only large TNT supplier, is bound by contracts sending much of its output to the US, where the explosive is used to manufacture the MK-84 and BLU-109 bombs supplied to Israel for its Gaza assault.
He said this diversion has left Poland with barely a month’s worth of TNT for wartime needs and has pushed European militaries into a severe shortage, while raising questions over whether Israel’s bombardment is being prioritized over Europe’s security requirements.
The Telegraph also recently cited a consortium of international rights groups, including the Palestinian Youth Movement, saying Israel’s widescale bombardment of Gaza has relied heavily on TNT supplied through Poland’s state-owned Nitro-Chem plant, a dependence it links to the explosive shortage now facing NATO.
The factory provides 90 percent of the TNT imported by the US for munitions such as the MK-84 and BLU-109 “bunker buster” bombs.
Those weapons have been delivered to Israel in large quantities and linked to high-casualty strikes on densely populated areas. Nitro-Chem has also supplied TNT and RDX to Israel directly.

A government statement on the decision framed the probe as “independent,” but clarified that the commission’s mandate will be determined by ministers of the Israeli cabinet. Tel Aviv also said it would do its utmost to ensure the commission’s makeup received “as broad public approval as possible.”
It added that the commission will have “full investigative authority,” the scope of which has not been publicly disclosed.

Telegram Sues Australia Over Age Verification Law
Telegram has initiated a lawsuit in the Federal Court of Australia against the local regulator, eSafety. The messenger is challenging the legality of the "Online Safety Act 2021" and a significant fine imposed on it.
As a reminder, in February 2025, the Australian regulator fined Telegram over $600,000 for delaying the provision of information on its measures to combat terrorism and materials related to child exploitation.
Telegram's arguments in court:
• The company argues that under Australian law, it is not defined as a "provider of social media services" and is therefore not subject to the regulator's demands.
• Telegram states it never received the initial notification for the fine, claiming it was sent to an incorrect address.
• The company asserts that once it became aware of the request, it voluntarily provided the required information. The @tginfo team previously analyzed the details of that response.
Context of the dispute: The lawsuit comes as Australia prepares to introduce some of the world's strictest age verification rules, effective December 10, 2025.
• The new rules will require tech platforms (including Reddit, Facebook, and TikTok) to prevent users under 16 from accessing their services.
• Fines for non-compliance can reach A$50 million (~$33 million USD).
• Privacy advocates are concerned that to comply with these requirements, companies will have to collect sensitive biometric data or identity documents, jeopardizing the privacy of all users.
