Starting in 2025 the Vera C. Rubin observatory will increase the number of known objects circling the sun by roughly tenfold, spotting new comets, exotic asteroids from other stars, and perhaps even the elusive Planet Nine.

...Thanks to a revolutionary new telescope, huge swaths of the undiscovered solar system will finally come into view.

... “It’s going to be a quite complete catalogue of everything in the solar system out to and beyond Neptune,” says Mario Jurić, an astronomer at the University of Washington working with VRO.

...The asteroid tally will almost immediately skyrocket....paradigm-shifting engineering... will peruse the entire night sky viewable from the Southern Hemisphere countless times during its decade-long survey, seeing almost everything, almost everywhere.

“This is a once-in-a-generation leap,” says Bernardinelli.

...Currently, only a few thousand Kuiper Belt objects, or KBOs, have been identified. VRO is expected to find at least that many. The observations will reveal the true structure and contents of the icy belt, and it could also solve a great mystery about the solar system: “How many planets do we have?” says Schwamb.

Over the last decade, some astronomers have suggested that the peculiar orbits of objects at the solar system’s fringes means a Neptune-size planet is lurking somewhere out there, far beyond Pluto.

...Visitors from beyond the solar system

In 2017 astronomers detected something amazing: the very first interstellar object, 1I/ʻOumuamua, a thin asteroid or comet that had escaped the gravitational grip of another star. It moved into and then out of the solar system at remarkable speeds, giving scientists only a few days to study it. Then, in 2019 a second planetary tourist was found, the comet 2I/Borisov.

With just two known, scientists have very little information about the nature of such interstellar objects.

🚨 BREAKING: Gaza War Expands as US, UK Warplanes Bomb Houthi Strongholds in Yemen

Reuters and VOA are reporting that US and UK warplanes have begin striking Houthi targets in Yemen, in what marks the first major regional expanse of the Gaza war.

The Telegraph has also reported British fighters and ships are participating in the military action against the Houthis. There are incoming reports of large airstrikes in major Yemeni cities.

One Mideast correspondent remarks that "we have gone from US prioritizing an end to war in Yemen to US getting involved against rebels in control of Yemen. Regional ramifications of both Yemen and Gaza wars on full display, with heavy toll on trade, maritime navigation."

Al Arabiya has reported that there are “Violent air strikes on the vicinity of Hodeidah city” and Sanaa has also been bombed.

Like pretty much all of America's last twenty something years of the 'war on terror,' Congress has been sidelined once again...

US and UK Bomb Dozens of Sites in Yemen

The US and the UK on Thursday (Jan 11) night launched strikes against more than a dozen sites in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, where the majority of Yemenis live, in a move that risks escalating the situation in the Middle East into a major regional war.

A US official told CNN that the strikes were launched by fighter jets and Tomahawk missiles fired by warships and submarines and that Houthi drone and missile sites were targeted. Yemeni media reported strikes in several cities, including the capital, Sanaa, and the Red Sea port of Hodeidah.

President Biden said in a statement that the strikes received support from Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, and Bahrain. He claimed that the US and Britain “successfully conducted strikes against a number of targets in Yemen used by Houthi rebels to endanger freedom of navigation.”

The bombing of Yemen came in response to Houthi attacks on Israel-linked shipping in the Red Sea that started in protest of the US-backed Israeli onslaught in Gaza. The Houthis, officially known as Ansar Allah, have vowed not to back down in the face of the US military and said their attacks in the Red Sea will only stop once the Israeli slaughter in Gaza ends.

Ahead of the US and British strikes on Yemen, Houthi leader Abdel-Malik al-Houthi vowed a strong response. “Any American attack will not remain without a response. The response will be greater than the attack that was carried out with 20 drones and a number of missiles,” he said.

🔶️ The US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) found that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) would be too stretched by fighting on two fronts, with the air force already overworked by constant raids on Gaza.

🔶️ IDF pilots would face far more dangerous missions going up against Hezbollah’s powerful air defences, the DIA warned, according to a report in the Washington Post.

🔶️ On Sunday, the IDF said it had wrapped up combat operations in northern Gaza and completed the “dismantling” of Hamas’s command structure there.

🔶️ Tens of thousands of troops have already been withdrawn from Gaza, with some already being redeployed to the northern front in the event war breaks out there.

🔶️ Iran-backed Hezbollah has an arsenal of tens of thousands of rockets and missiles, and groups of experienced fighters who have battleground experience in Lebanon and Syria. Its commanders have also advised other Iran-backed militant groups in Yemen and Iraq.

Jan 9th — UAE-Backed Groups in Yemen Plot ‘False Flag’ Attacks in Red Sea: Sanaa

The attacks would target ships not associated with Israel, something Yemen has vowed not to do

UAE-backed mercenary groups in Yemen are preparing to carry out false flag attacks against commercial vessels in order to implicate the Sanaa government and prompt further US militarization of the Red Sea, an official said on 9 January.

Fadl Abu Talib, a member of the political bureau of the Ansarallah resistance movement, said on Tuesday that “the UAE, through its mercenaries in Yemen, is making arrangements to target commercial ships that are not destined for the Zionist entity.”

Abu Dhabi and its proxy wish “to mix up the cards and give the Americans [the] justification for militarizing the Red Sea,” Abu Talib added. “But we tell it that its despicable behavior is exposed, as our operations in the Red and Arab seas have specific, clear objectives.”

Ansarallah and Yemen’s Armed Forces have carried out numerous naval operations against vessels linked to or bound for Israel. The attacks come in solidarity with the people of Gaza and the Palestinian resistance, and aim to prevent goods from reaching Israeli ports for as long as Gaza’s access to aid is hindered.

Sanaa has vowed that only Israeli-linked ships or those heading towards Israeli ports will be targeted, and nothing else. No deaths or injuries have resulted from Yemen’s attacks.

Stunning Evidence of Voter Fraud Comes to Light After Statewide Investigation in Michigan

Police reports show a month before the 2020 election, a Muskegon, Michigan city clerk noticed a woman dropping off thousands of completed voter registration applications.

The clerk told police that many of the applications appeared to have the same handwriting as if one person had filled them all out, and addresses on multiple forms were invalid or nonexistent.

Phone numbers on the forms were fake, and signatures did not match those on the file with the secretary of state.

The woman who dropped off the stacks of ballot applications told police she worked for the Democrat-funded GBI Strategies and was being paid weekly to find unregistered voters and get them registered.

Jill Biden: Trump Supporters Are "Insurrectionists, Dangerous Extremists"

During an interview with MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski Thursday (Jan 11), Jill Biden labelled all supporters of Donald Trump as “insurrectionists” and “dangerous extremists,” saying she can’t believe what they have done to the country.

Brzezinski asked Biden’s wife how she feels about being labelled part of ‘the Biden crime family,’ noting “I have one congresswoman: The Biden crime family sold out America, Marjorie Taylor Greene. He’s a liar. He’s mentally incompetent.”

“And let’s not even talk about what ‘Let’s go, Brandon’ means, but you have U.S. senators holding signs that say that,” Brzezinski added.

Dr Jill responded, “It’s hard to realise it’s our country, isn’t it? I mean, to look at it, what we used to have, and what the other side, the extremists have turned this country into.”

“I mean, we would never see things like that, say, 10 years ago,” she added.

She continued, “it is a little scary… not just for me and for Joe, but just to see what happened. I mean, look at the insurrection that took place. I mean, it’s just so hard to believe that the United States of America witnessed an insurrection. I think Americans were just stunned by that.”

Brzezinski then noted that Trump is calling those arrested for entering the Capitol (or just walking around it) ‘hostages’.

“Or patriots, you know, as he - he doesn’t call them what they were, insurrectionists, dangerous extremists,” Dr Jill responded.

Gallup: Record High 43% of Americans Now Identify as Independents

Political independents continue to constitute the largest political bloc in the U.S., with an average of 43% of U.S. adults identifying this way in 2023, tying the record high from 2014.

Independent identification has been 40% or higher each year since 2011, except for the 2016 (39%) and 2020 (39%) presidential election years.

Equal 27% shares of U.S. adults identify as Republicans and Democrats, with the Democratic figure marking a new low for that party in Gallup’s trend.

Independents first outnumbered supporters of both major political parties in 1991 and have continued to do so since then, except in several years between 2004 and 2008. Over time, the increase in the percentage of independents has come more at the expense of Democrats than Republicans, which might be expected since Democrats were previously the largest political group.

Israeli Army Ordered Mass Hannibal Directive on 7 Oct: Media

An investigation from Israel's leading newspaper indicates Israel deliberately killed many of its own civilians and soldiers during Hamas' Operation Al-Aqsa Flood to prevent them being taken captive back to Gaza

The Israeli military implemented the “Hannibal Directive” during Hamas’ attack on 7 October, killing some of its own civilians and soldiers to prevent Hamas from taking them as captives back to Gaza, according to an investigation by Israel’s leading newspaper, Yedioth Ahronoth, which will be published in full on 12 January.

The Hebrew edition of the paper wrote on 11 January that “one of the revelations revealed in the investigation is that at noon on October 7, the IDF [Israeli army] ordered all of its combat units in practice to use the ‘Hannibal Procedure’ although without clearly mentioning this explicitly by name.”

The order was to stop “at all costs any attempt by Hamas terrorists to return to Gaza, that is, despite the fear that some of them have abductees,” the paper wrote.

The Times of Israel described how the Hannibal procedure, or directive, "allows soldiers to use potentially massive amounts of force to prevent a soldier from falling into the hands of the enemy. This includes the possibility of endangering the life of the soldier in question in order to prevent his capture.”

A previous Haaretz investigation of the directive concluded that “from the point of view of the army, a dead soldier is better than a captive soldier who himself suffers and forces the state to release thousands of captives in order to obtain his release.”
