Mysterious Signals From Space Are Getting Stranger, Scientists Say
Ever since the first fast radio burst was discovered in 2007, scientists have been racing to understand the unusual flashes of radio waves emanating from extremely distant locations.
Some FRBs emit as much energy in a fraction of a second as the Sun does in a few days. One signal that astonished astronomers earlier this year had been pulsing every 20 minutes since at least 1988.
And while scientists can still only hazard a guess as to what's behind them, the latest fast radio burst that was just discovered is only adding to the mystery — and highlighting just how much we still have to learn about the celestial phenomenon.
Some FRBs repeat themselves, and a new study published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society has shed new light. The study has detected a highly active repeating FRB signal behaving differently than anything previously detected.
"This work is exciting because it provides both confirmation of known FRB properties and the discovery of some new ones," said lead author Sofia Sheikh, of the SETI Institute in California.
Over a two-month period, Sheikh and other scientists observed 35 FRBs from a single source, FRB 20220912A. They discovered a fascinating pattern emerging from their observations.
Most repeating FRBs gradually get lower in pitch as they go on, according to astronomers. However, FRB 20220912A is different. It has a never-before-seen change in pitch that sounds like a cosmic slide-whistle which can be heard when the data is converted into a sound clip using a xylophone.
....Astronomers believe some FRBs are caused by a type of neutron star called a magnetar. These neutron stars have very strong magnetic fields and are the cores of dead stars.
"We’re narrowing down the source of FRBs, for example, to extreme objects such as magnetars, but no existing model can explain all of the properties that have been observed so far," Sheikh sai

At a congressional review on Wednesday, Transport Department official was fervently scrutinized over the imposition of a federal “kill switch” guideline for cars by Republican @RepThomasMassie. A prerequisite for auto-producers to incorporate a kill switch as a solution to intoxicated driving was a distinguishing feature of the bipartisan infrastructure statute, signed off by President Joe Biden in 2021.
Despite a spirited effort by Massie to halt the guideline, his amendment was defeated in the House of Representatives on November 7, with 229 votes against and 201 in favor.

Webb’s death was listed as a suicide, but Webb was found with two bullet holes in the head, indicating that he was executed.
In the late 1990s Webb detailed how the explosion of crack cocaine in South Central Los Angeles during the 1980s was sparked by two Nicaraguan émigrés, Danilo Blandón and Norwin Meneses, who sold huge amounts of cocaine to raise funds for a CIA-backed rebel army—the Contras.
Webb was a Pulitzer Prize winner whose “Dark Alliance” series went viral in the early days of the internet. It caused a firestorm that led to the resignation of CIA Director John Deutch after he was grilled by angry Black activists at a meeting in L.A.
Webb stood by his research, nevertheless, and continued to expose corruption as a freelance journalist. Some speculate this is what got him killed.

Mossad Chief To Meet CIA Director, Qatari PM In Warsaw
The talks are expected to be ‘longer and more complicated’ than the previous round
The chief of Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency, David Barnea, is scheduled to meet with CIA director William Burns and Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani in Warsaw on 18 December.
According to the Hebrew news outlet Ynet, the talks will focus on securing a new prisoner exchange deal, and will be “long, complicated and more difficult than before.”
“Burns' continued involvement in negotiations is critically important to striking any new deal,” Israeli sources told Axios.
The meeting comes three days after Barnea and Qatar’s prime minister met in an unnamed European country in order to restart prisoner release talks. ..
US, Qatari, and Egyptian mediation helped secure the previous round of truce and prisoner release talks, which lasted seven days and saw the release of 81 Israelis, 23 foreign nationals and 240 Palestinians.
Around 130 Israelis are still believed to be held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip. However, not all of them are alive.
Tel Aviv announced on Friday that it had mistakenly killed three Israeli prisoners in Gaza. The Israeli army admitted that the prisoners were unarmed and were waving white flags.
Hamas has repeatedly said that they have released all children and non-combatant Israelis, and that those who remain are soldiers.

EU Countries Threw Away Over $4 Billion Worth of COVID-19 Vaccines
🇪🇺💉@COVID19Up: At least 215 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines purchased by EU countries at the height of the crisis have since been thrown away at an estimated cost to the taxpayer of €4 billion, an analysis by POLITICO reveals. And that's almost certainly an underestimate.
Since the first coronavirus vaccines were approved in late 2020, EU countries have collectively taken delivery of 1.5 billion doses (more than three for every person in Europe). Many of these now lie in landfills across the Continent.
Calculations based on available data show that EU countries have discarded an average of 0.7 jabs for every member of their population. Top of the scale is Estonia, which binned more than one dose per inhabitant, followed closely by Germany, which also threw away the largest raw volume of jabs.
If this average waste rate is projected across the rest of the EU, it would equal more than 312 million destroyed vaccines.
It's not easy to discover how many vaccines have been thrown out. Governments, including the EU's second-most populous country France, are reluctant to reveal the scale of the waste.

Since the first coronavirus vaccines were approved in late 2020, EU countries have collectively taken delivery of 1.5 billion doses (more than three for every person in Europe). Many of these now lie in landfills across the Continent.
Calculations based on available data show that EU countries have discarded an average of 0.7 jabs for every member of their population. Top of the scale is Estonia, which binned more than one dose per inhabitant, followed closely by Germany, which also threw away the largest raw volume of jabs.
If this average waste rate is projected across the rest of the EU, it would equal more than 312 million destroyed vaccines.
It's not easy to discover how many vaccines have been thrown out. Governments, including the EU's second-most populous country France, are reluctant to reveal the scale of the waste.

Looking at the photograph now brings back difficult memories for the Polish model, who was then in her 20s. She notes how young she looks at the time. And how strange she must have appeared to Gates and other famous people that Epstein was escorting her to meet.
