White House advisers and people close to the Trump administration are frustrated with Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado over her public comments suggesting elections could be held within a year, viewing the timeline as potentially undermining U.S. strategy, according to POLITICO.

Administration officials argue rebuilding and stabilizing Venezuela must come first, with some suggesting elections are more realistically two years away. The White House says credible elections cannot happen immediately and should follow recovery efforts.

Machado’s office dismissed the criticism, insisting it remains aligned with Washington and shares the goal of a stable, democratic Venezuela.

🇬🇧 Morgan McSweeney, chief of staff to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, has resigned.

In his resignation letter, McSweeney said he “takes full responsibility” for advising the appointment of Peter Mandelson, calling the decision "wrong."
