🇷🇴 Romanian Defense Ministry is planning to spend €6.5 billion to buy 216 new tanks and 76 armored support vehicles to replace its aging fleet.

Package should include training, spare parts and ammunition. Romania wants its industry to help with the project aiming to locally produce equipment such as armored hulls, sighting systems and weapon elements, not just assemble them.

Project is part of Romanian Armed forces transformation plan aimed to finish in 2040.

Tanks considered are M1 Abrams, Leopard 2s and K2 Panthers.

Favorite is Abrams as RO already ordered 56 M1A2 SEPv3 waiting for delivery.
