The fighting quickly escalated following the deployment of additional Taliban forces, which led Fateh to declare war on the Taliban forces in the southern part of the province.

Taliban forces and special forces suffered massive casualties, including the loss of a helicopter that was shot down while trying to resupply Taliban forces on the ground.
