Criminal Justice (Terrorist Offences) (Amendment) Act 2026
Updates Irelandโs counter-terrorism legislation to align with EU and international frameworks. Broadens the definition of terrorist offences to include receiving training, travelling with terrorist intent, and financing activities that could be deemed preparatory.
The government can now classify more activities as terrorism.. If you attend a meeting, share materials or travel to a conference that the state later decides was connected to a โproscribedโ group, you can be prosecuted.
So, any Nationalist organisation that opposes the governmentโs immigration policy, advocates for Irish sovereignty, or builds ties with like-minded groups abroad can be labelled a terrorist organisation. The definitions are broad enough to cover lawful political activity.
