Tradition is how the unconscious majority defends itself against critical introspection and rational thought.

I suggest that “self-determination” (of a nation, ethnicity, group) stands in opposition to “Self” (of a person) and also in opposition to humanity (as rational consciousness). It is a distinction based on the anxiety of the mostly unconscious majority and a means of defence against the revelatory trauma of rational thought, which would reveal any habitual, compulsive, insecure, anxiety-based group-identity as false (vis-a-vis the reflexive, personal Self).

Consensus is evidence of the beliefs of the majority. It is not evidence of what those beliefs are about.

I regard anxiety as an inconsistency of self-conception with respect to other beings of the same kind in the world as ‘we’ know it, which amounts to a non-integrated (fragmented) Self. I allow for the possibility that perfect integration is impossible unless everyone else is fully integrated, hence anxiety can only be diminished but never practically eliminated. We thus cannot become more integrated (and less anxious) without helping others to become more integrated. Only the unconscious is not anxious, but that which is unconscious is not us, and it does not matter.

The concept of political self-determination is logically inconsistent and immoral

Self-determination on the basis of the will of the majority is incompatible with self-determination of the minority (therefore inherently self-negating), and both are contrary to the moral law (which is not conditional on anyone’s political preferences).

Building an economically viable tunnel across the Atlantic is one thing. Making it straight enough so that passengers wont be exposed to mind-shattering lateral accelerations is another. Making it air tight enough for high-vacuum is another. Then having a solution for a situation when there is a power outage or any other technical fault that would leave passengers stranded in vacuum, under the ocean, is quite a challenge. Religions are neither clear nor consistent in explaining their foundational idea that “Man was created in the image of God”. What belongs to that image, and what does not belong to it? If humans are equally valuable because the image of God is the human Soul, and all humans have Soul, then the idea of Last Judgement of the Soul does not make sense, since all souls are identical to the image. On the other hand, if the degree of likeness to the image of God can vary, can be altered by our choices, which would be consistent with the idea of Judgment, then humans are not equal, not equally valuable, in which case it is imperative on religion to explain what properties belong to the image and what is excluded, and how different degrees of the image are expressed, or else they admit they do not know what they are preaching about. Whatever is asserted as a property of the image of God is implicitly asserted of God himself, which automatically disqualifies any inconsistencies between the two instances (of the same thing).

Infinity is not a quantity. Insofar as it is logically consistent it is only a metaphor for the state of convergence of a variable of a mathematical function. All other uses of the term can be interpreted to mean ‘the end of something that has no end’, therefore contradiction.

By characterising an entity as a “fellow human” we already presuppose what remains to be proven (subjective interriority). The doubt that arises about the internal subjectivity of each individual considered separately does not entail solipsism; we may accept, as a matter of logical necessity, that other subjects exist, but only be uncertain who is a real subject. This implies that the subjectivity of others is not inferred directly by phenomenological means but by analytical means, possibly based on multiple inputs of information that come together in the right way. A good example that can refute the phenomenological basis of ‘fellowship’ would be to construct a robot that perfectly emulates human form and behaviour, but is merely an unconscious machine programmed to respond how we would expect other subjects to respond. And yet phenomenology of the face, facial expression as the universal first language, is one of the inputs that we use to infer the presence of other subjects, and their capacity for verbal communication is another. These inputs still do not guarantee that we interact with reflexive consciousness; it is still up to analytical reflection to differentiate between a real ‘fellow’ and a fake, a machine. Their language and expression must make sense in a way that appears both non-deterministic and constructive of common sense, that we can generate new meaning together. I argue that only in the act of common creation of meaning, by generating a new conception of something about our shared world, that we properly recognise one another as another Self, and that this recognition is always only reciprocal, can never be satisfied unilaterally. In the act of internalising a commonly generated meaning we conceptually (analytically) contain the subjectivity of one another as a condition of that meaning, which also sustains our individual subjectivity.

The word ‘nothing’ is something, but the sense of this word is the negation of all sense apart from itself, which implies that absolute nothing is impossible to consistently assert. When we say ‘nothing’, it is always a qualified exclusion: a hole needs edges, but edges are not included in the sense of the hole.
