It’s Public Service Recognition Week! Saving lives, protecting property and enhancing the national economy is the height of public service and the @NWS team is the epitome of public service, deserving of recognition each and every day. Thank you to all public servants! #PSRW2024
4/25 to 5/10, 2024 was a busy stretch for @NWS. 3,859 tornado, severe, and flood watches and warnings. 267 confirmed tornadoes. Followed by a G5 geomagnetic storm, warnings by @NWSSWPC prevented major impacts. All while getting ready for hurricane season and onsite for wildfires.
All ingredients are in place for a very active hurricane season. It's a reason to be concerned, but not alarmed. Use this time to your advantage. Take the time now to put together a plan & preparedness kit so that you’re ready for the season ahead.

Landed in Mobile, Alabama just before @NWSMobile issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning.
It was amazing to witness the latest @NOAA satellite soar toward orbit! GOES-U will be an invaluable tool for the @NWS to forecast hurricanes, fires, & severe storms. A new coronagraph will help expand warning lead times for geomagnetic storms.
🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day! Please celebrate safely by being weather aware as dangerous heat and thunderstorms are expected in parts of the nation. Check weather.gov for your @NWS forecast.

More incredibly sad news this week of the unnecessary death of children left in a hot car in Texas, Mississippi and California. There have been 27 such fatalities this year. These are preventable! See this video for some tips.
Congratulations to North Dakota for becoming the 8th state that is fully StormReady - including two tribal nations! Celebrating the area's Cooperative Observers & meeting with emergency officials and local media capped a great visit. Great work by @NWSBismarck and @NWSGrandForks!
As #Helene continues to spread dangerous conditions across the Southeast U.S., please seek safe shelter, listen to local authorities, check weather.gov. Earlier today, I had the privilege of flying through Helene (on purpose!) with @NOAA_HurrHunter to collect vital data that support the accurate @NWS forecasts.
The hurricane that @NWS has been warning about is here! Tornadoes and heavy rainfall have begun impacting Florida well ahead of the expected landfall of #Milton. Be sure to have multiple sources for weather alerts. I urge those in harm’s way to continue heeding advice from local officials and please be safe!
