The U.S. Government Is Building the Foundation for a CBDC Through the GENIUS Act and the CLARITY Act

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently said:

“There will be no central bank digital currency... We’ve passed stablecoin legislation... and the CLARITY Act is now up on the Hill. So we have taken that off the table.”

Instead of rolling out a government CBDC directly, they’re pushing the same system through private companies issuing dollar-backed stablecoins pegged 1:1 to the U.S. dollar.

The only thing that changes is who issues the digital dollars.

Bessent intentionally rejects the CBDC label to ease public concern, replacing it with stablecoins and shifting attention away from CBDCs, which are associated with government control and surveillance.

GENIUS Act: Privatizes the issuance of the digital dollar.
CLARITY Act: Centralizes the regulatory framework and market infrastructure around it.

Before introducing a new financial system, governments first create the legal framework for the digital asset infrastructure.

Next comes the normalization of digital identity verification, pushed from multiple directions until it becomes standard practice. (e.g., voter ID requirements under the SAVE Act)

The end goal is a fully digital, identity linked financial system where every transaction is tracked and access to money depends on compliance.

A British surgeon is taking the National Health Service (NHS) and the UK government to court, arguing that the adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism has been used to restrict political speech and silence pro-Palestine expression.

❗️PGSA says over 200 foreign vessels sought Hormuz permits before latest US attacks

More than 200 non-Iranian vessels applied for passage permits and insurance coverage from Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) in the three weeks between the signing of the MoU between Iran and the US and the latest US attacks on Iran, the authority announced on 14 July.

The PGSA said 79 percent of requests were approved with insurance issued, while 14 percent remained under review, with permits taking an average of 50 hours to process.

Tankers made up the largest share of applicants at 41 percent, followed by bulk carriers at 27 percent and container ships at 18 percent.

Applications were split almost evenly between vessels leaving the Persian Gulf, at 53 percent, and those entering, at 47 percent.

Of the outbound requests, 21 percent were bound for China, 20 percent for India, and 29 percent for other Asian destinations.

The figures cover crossings approved by Iran, not transits through the southern Omani route, where US forces have escorted vessels.
