For anyone who wants to make a Thaumcraft port

Thaumcraft "ports" seemed to be allowed as long as they don't violate the license or the likeness of TC (using the name "Thaumcraft"). So someone could make a TC in 1.20.1 with all the best features of TC 4, 5, and 6, as long as you use your own code and assets (or use Creative Commons assets).

I think a community of modders who love Thaumcraft could easily make a successor at a much faster pace than CoFH.

I made a mod that turns dirt underwater into mud. It also adds new blocks such as Muddy Grass, Muddy Podzol, and other muddy variants of dirt, reworks terrain generation in swamps and jungles, and introduces a new block called Viscous Mud that behaves similarly to Powder Snow.
