//BLUF: ATTACKS CONTINUE IN BAGHDAD AS FPV DRONES BEGIN MORE FREQUENT USE IN IRAQ. IED DISCOVERED AT MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE IN FLORIDA. COUNTERTERRORISM CENTER DIRECTOR RESIGNS IN PROTEST OF WAR.//

-International Events-
Persian Gulf: Over the past few days, conflict within Baghdad has become more significant, as Iranian-backed militia groups concentrate attacks on the Green Zone. Last night the Al-Rashid Hotel was hit by an Iranian drone, and another FPV drone incident was reported as the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) continue conducting reconnaissance of the American Embassy compound, which usually results in drone attacks later on that night. These attacks have continued to be a daily occurrence, with sensitive sites at the Embassy compound being struck over the past few days.
-HomeFront-
Florida: Yesterday one of the Entry Control Points (ECPs) at MacDill Air Force Base was shut down due to a suspicious package being discovered at the Visitor's Center. After some time, EOD personnel cleared the device, and operations returned to normal.
Analyst Comment: Officially, no comment has been made on this incident beyond the brief lockdown. As suspicious package incidents are extremely common nowadays, usually nothing comes of it. However in this case, a photo of the suspicious package circulated on social media, which indicates that this was a legitimate IED and not just a lost bag. Whether or not it was actually a viable device is anyone's guess, but the photo of the alleged device indicates that the fuze was lit, only sputtering out on it's own. So clearly somebody tried to blow something up, regardless of the failure to detonate. As a result, this is another important reminder of the threats that remain constant throughout American society, as the war in the Middle East inflames tensions at home.
Washington D.C. - This morning the Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, Joe Kent, resigned from his position in protest of the continuing war in Iran, stating that he "cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby."
-----END TEARLINE-----
Analyst Comments: While all resignations in protest will sharply divide sentiment for and against, many arguments are being undertaken as people speak without thinking first. The fiery resignation letter is now functionally a Rorschach Test...people who make policy decisions will see what they want to see in it, and divide themselves accordingly. Disparaging comments attacking one's character that come out only after a public opinion is expressed are not the best indicator for what is really going on behind the scenes, but nevertheless that's exactly what ends up happening among those who are making decisions regarding the war. What is undeniable is that such a high-profile resignation right now is extremely important, and might be an indicator of future events.
Regardless of the politics in play, (and taking personal feelings out of the situation entirely), when one of the main players in the US Intelligence Community resigns right now, at this present time, this is probably an indicator of far more serious developments coming down the pipeline. Senior resignations of this nature in any nation are quite rare, and hard-hitting resignation letters are rarer still. Nobody resigns because they think the war will be over anytime soon, and Kent (being the second-highest-ranking individual in the Intelligence Community) would have had the access to know information pertaining to future events that have not been made public. Due to this context, this could be an early indicator of what decisions have quietly been made behind closed doors, which have not yet come to fruition.

Pay attention to the last paragraph here. Excellent analysis. Could Kent's resignation be a signal flare that Trump has agreed to a ground operation or some other disastrous course of action?

The U.S. Navy faces a potential “aircraft carrier crunch” as its most advanced warship, the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78), sits at Souda Bay undergoing damage assessment.
The transition from active combat in the Red Sea to a shipyard in Crete marks a critical pause in Operation Epic Fury, highlighting the physical and industrial limits of 21st-century naval power.
Defense analyst Jack Buckby warns that the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) faces a potential 12-to-14-month maintenance period after being sidelined by a March 12 laundry room fire.
Currently docked at Souda Bay, Crete, the first-in-class supercarrier has completed a grueling nine-month deployment supporting over 7,000 strikes against Iran.
The fire displaced 100 berths, compounding a massive backlog of deferred maintenance on advanced systems like EMALS and AAG.
This “maintenance debt” threatens the U.S. Navy’s global carrier availability at a critical strategic juncture, testing the resilience of the newest 100,000-ton nuclear-powered platform.
There has been no regular deployment, either. The ship has been required to sustain high sortie generation and integrate with other U.S. air assets, and there has been continuous operational pressure placed on the platform in a clearly high-threat environment. The deployment has also been extended multiple times, pushing the ship toward what may become one of the longest deployments in modern Navy history.
That has all taken a measurable toll on the vessel, with persistent issues with onboard systems like its plumbing, along with broader concerns about crew fatigue and equipment wear after months without full maintenance. Put simply, the Ford has been operating at a level that accelerates degradation across its mechanical systems, but also human performance.
Under normal conditions, post-deployment maintenance for a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier can take several months, even without major damage. Historical examples show that complex overhauls or major repair periods can extend well beyond a year, depending on scope and system upgrades.
In the case of Ford, several factors point to it being a longer timeline. First, the ship is a first-in-class platform with known challenges across multiple systems, meaning maintenance is already going to be more complex. Second, the extended deployment has created a backlog of deferred work that must now be addressed in a single maintenance period. Third, the fire itself caused structural and habitability damage that will require repair alongside the routine engineering work. Nothing about this is routine.
When these factors are combined, the possibility of a 12-14 month downtime seems perfectly plausible, even if it hasn't been officially confirmed.

U.S. Navy Nuclear Aircraft Carrier USS Gerald R. Ford Might Be Out of Action for 14 Months
Could the USS Gerald R. Ford Be Sidelined for A Year Or More? The U.S. Navy’s newest aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78), has been pulled from active operations in the Red Sea and sent to Naval Support Activity Souda Bay in Crete following a March…

"Laundry fires could be here," the CO of USS Ford thought. "I've never been this close to Iran before. There could be laundry fires anywhere." The cool ocean breeze felt good against the burnt out hull of the ship. "I HATE LAUNDRY FIRES" he thought. Highway to the Danger Zone reverberated the entire ship, making it pulsate even as the $200 billion proposed additional cost of the war circulated through the Pentagon budget and washed his (merited) fear of sabotage after dark. "With a super carrier, you could sail anywhere you want" he said to himself, out loud.

There is some serious gay-opping going on regarding Kharg Island.
Everyone knows a landing there is nearly impossible, yet that's all anyone seems to be talking about. It all stinks of misdirection. Apparently the Iranians have bought it too and are moving resources to defend the island.
I think this is a rerun of the "D-Day will be at Calais" deception. There likely will be some kind of limited ground incursion this weekend after markets close on Friday. However, it's most likely going to be one if the smaller islands at the narrowest portion of the strait. The Americans will seek to disrupt the Iranian toll-booth operation.

Did someone at the Pentagon leak the new 10K surge number to steer opinion against the war before it gets worse, or to intimidate and misdirect the Iranians? I'd guess the former, if it weren't the WSJ.

Here will be the flow of mobilization:
First, they will pull every active duty scrub into the fight they can. Remember individual augmentees in the GWOT? Remember Navy cooks in flaks manning checkpoints in Baghdad? Also denying retirement requests etc.
Second/concurrently, the reserves aren't going it be so much in reserve anymore. Expect mass activations soon. The first Americans killed in this conflict were reservist from Iowa. Manpower is already tight.
Third, the individual ready reserve will get called up. You thought signing up for IRR was a free lunch?
Fourth, they will push really hard for veterans ro re-enlist. Retirees will start getting recalled to service.
Fifth, they will stop asking and start ordering veterans back into service. Under what legal framework, I'm not sure. But they will try very hard.
Finally, I believe a draft is on the table once the options above run dry.
These options may happen all at once or months in between. It's anyone's guess.

Trump will deliver a speech with an "important update" on the war with Iran at 9 p.m. Eastern.
This takes place on April Fools. I honestly don't know if that will directly factor into what we can take at face value from this speech.

More importantly, this announcement coincides with the beginning of passover at sundown tonight.
This war's beginning coincided with Purim. The Kabbalists in power are acutely aware of the symbolic and demonic power of these dates.
On a practical note, passover's full moon is favorable for both parachuting and amphibious operations.
