Kataib Kataib Hezbollah Signals Opposition to Disarmament

Iraq’s Iran-aligned Kataib Hezbollah has escalated its rhetoric over Baghdad’s planned disarmament process, accusing PM Ali al-Zaidi of acting under foreign pressure.

The group reportedly rejects the September deadline unless U.S. and Turkish forces withdraw and the Peshmerga is disbanded, warning it could respond under an “eye for an eye” principle.

The U.S. is reportedly planning a military withdrawal in September, while Article 121 of Iraq’s Constitution recognizes regional guards in the Kurdistan Region.

U.S. envoy Tom Barrack told Reuters Turkey was not warned ahead of Israel’s strikes on Syria’s Abu al-Duhur Airbase and observed Israeli aircraft flying north toward Turkish territory,

Potentially prompting Ankara to prepare a military response.
Barrack said “calm heads” ultimately prevented further escalation.

Washington is now working to strengthen deconfliction and information-sharing between Israel, Türkiye and Syria.

Israel confirms it was behind overnight airstrikes against a Syrian military airport, where it claims Turkey was planning to deploy forces.

"Israel and Syria agreed to a status quo in security matters, which Syria was on the verge of breaching by permitting Turkish troops to deploy at an airbase near Aleppo," says Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office in an English-language statement.

The Prime Minister's Office says Israel "repeatedly warned Syria that such a deployment would pose a threat to Israel's security."

"Syria chose to ignore these warnings," the PMO says, adding that Israel "will not tolerate threats to its security, and would welcome a return to the status quo."

Kurdistan Region Security Agency hands over seven ISIS members to Baghdad

The Kurdistan Region Security Agency announced that it had arrested seven members of the terrorist organization ISIS (Daesh) who were wanted by Iraqi courts.

The detainees were wanted under Article 4 of Iraq’s Anti-Terrorism Law and had previously been hiding in Sulaymaniyah and its surrounding areas.

An explosion halted gas flow from the Al-Jabsah gas plant in northeastern Syria on Tuesday, disrupting supplies to several power generation turbines, according to the Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC).

After the IDF's strike on a Syrian airbase where Israel says Turkey was planning to deploy forces, Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir says the military "will not allow hostile forces to establish themselves along our borders."

Zamir visited troops in the Israeli-held buffer zone in southern Syria this morning, during which he held an assessment with senior officers.

"We see what is happening and are monitoring the changes on the Syrian front. We must prepare for them accordingly," he says, according to remarks provided by the IDF.
