A document issued by the Syrian intelligence services dated 06 January 2005 shows the names of individuals who volunteered and attended a military preparatory course before being sent to Iraq to fight the American occupation.

The document includes the name Ahmad Hussein al-Shar‘a, the current president of Syria, among those who volunteered for jihad against the Americans and coalition forces.

The document indicates that Ahmad al-Shar‘a was connected to Syrian intelligence before later becoming a jihadist fighter in Iraq against U.S. forces.

German journalist missing for fifty days after Jolani regime forces take control of Raqqa

Source: DW Arabic

Nearly a month and a half has passed since the disappearance of German journalist Eva Maria Michelmann in Syria, and her fate remains unknown. Multiple scenarios surround her case amid ongoing search efforts, silence from Damascus, and growing questions about Germany’s ability to protect its citizens.
More than fifty days have elapsed since Michelmann disappeared in northeastern Syria. She went missing on January 18th alongside her Turkish journalist colleague Ahmed Bulad, according to the Perspektive Online website.

The two journalists were last seen in the city of Raqqa, according to the Turkish news agency ETHA. Reports indicate they were detained during the Syrian government’s takeover of northeastern Syria, a region previously under Kurdish self-administration.

The search for them continues. They disappeared as Syrian government forces entered Raqqa to assert control over the city; due to the rapid advance of Syrian forces, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were unable to evacuate civilians from the conflict zone.

Eyewitnesses reported that Michelmann and Bulad, along with other civilians, took shelter in a building that was subsequently surrounded by Syrian government forces. Reports indicate that a number of civilians were transferred elsewhere following negotiations with the SDF, according to the German newspaper Die Tageszeitung.

Michelmann and Bulad were reportedly also due to be evacuated, but disappeared after being placed in a government vehicle, according to a statement from the “Bridge of Peoples Foundation.“

Some families who recently returned to the city of Afrin are still homeless, their homes either destroyed or occupied by settlers.

The relevant authorities must act immediately to secure these families, provide them with assistance, and remove the settlers from their homes.

Mr.Abdullah Ocalan says he spent the night until dawn to remembering Salih Muslim. In his letter, this is how he describes Salih Muslim:

"Salih Muslim was a true patriot of the lands of Syria. He knew how to be a full Kurdish with Kurds; an indispensable friend with Arabs; a true brother with Turks. With Assyrians, Armenians, Circassians – every people, religion, and sect – he made establishing a complete humanistic familiarity an inseparable part of his life.
He was a cornerstone of Rojava that I always trusted, and he will always remain so. I see him as the twin brother of Sırrı Süreyya, whom we lost in the Peace and Democratic Society Process. On this basis, he will remain the undying star of both our struggle and our peace."

Kurdish leader Farhad Shami posted on his X account: “The Kurds do not need a birth certificate from those who are ignorant of history or who read it selectively. Their presence in this region is a firmly established historical fact, and their role in its present and future cannot be measured by assumptions or fabricated narratives.” The statements made by the presidential envoy, Ahmed Hilali, reflect a narrow and exclusionary vision that demonstrates neither historical awareness nor a sense of patriotism, and does not contribute to building a comprehensive national discourse.

What is needed today is not to reinvent or falsify history, but rather to work on building a cohesive Syrian entity that includes all its people on the basis of genuine belonging to the region and shared citizenship, just as the Kurds were in the process of building modern Syria from its beginnings, up to their active participation in fighting all forces of evil, such as ISIS and its affiliates.

As for the discourse based on questioning the authentic components of the region's fabric, it is a racist discourse that does not serve any real national project, and only leads to weakening the national fabric instead of protecting it.
