The series of drone strikes against the city of Slemani in the autonomous region of Kurdistan illustrate the problem we are facing:

We do not have the means to effectively defend ourselves against the threat of fast moving and mobile suicide-drones.
The footage shows the interception of drones by gun and machine gun fire - essentially covering the direction from which the drones are coming from with bullets in hopes of landing a hit on an incoming drone.

This is obviously not an effective doctrine and barely offers any chance of success.
In this case here, the well equipped base of the 70s Peshmerga of the PUK was able to achieve limited success solely because of the base being well equipped enough to be able to handle extended periods of fire; also because every available gun was able to be used for that role due to the presence of large numbers of Peshmerga.
This strategy absolutely offers no potential success in any scenario where a well manned and equipped base does not exist and where drones do not approach from the right direction.

But it goes deeper than that - we did not even develop a military doctrine to combat drones.
It’s an institutional problem - by all means, it is not an easy task but it is definitely feasible.

Three Young Men Tortured and Murdered in Afrin

Three young men were tortured and murdered by groups affiliated with the Turkish state in Cindirês, a town in Afrin.
Afrin is still not a safe area.

The Coalition of Kurdish Forces of Eastern(Rojhilat) Kurdistan issued a statement

-The Iranian regime's attacks on the Eastern Parties have increased
-Peshmerga Ismail Rahmani and Asayish Officer Welat Tahir were martyred
-A number of Peshmerga from the Revolutionary Association and PUK were injured
-The Iranian regime's repression is coming to an end
-Let the Kurds continue their struggle to overthrow the regime and gain their rights
-The destruction of the Islamic Republic is the fulfillment of the goals of the martyrs

A newly formed militia group calling itself the Ahwazi Falcons Units says it has attacked IRGC positions in Khuzestan Province. The group announced its existence earlier this week and said it plans to continue carrying out attacks against Iranian forces.

PUK leader Bafel Talabanî:

We have submitted the names of certain individuals and parties to Baghdad who are carrying out attacks against the Kurdistan Region. We await Baghdad to take serious steps toward implementing the necessary measures. I know that our friends in Baghdad are making every effort to prevent further turmoil, but if no action is taken, then we will deal with them ourselves.

Surveillance cameras capture the moment of the armed robbery in Jindires.

Recordings from surveillance cameras show the moment of the murder and armed robbery that took place in the center of Jindires district in the Afrin countryside on Sunday morning, March 8, 2026. The recordings show unidentified gunmen in two vehicles carrying out the attack.

They opened fire on three people and stole money and jewelry they had in their possession before fleeing the scene.

No official statement has yet been issued by the relevant authorities regarding the circumstances of the incident or the identity of the perpetrators.

Both Masoud Barzani and Bafel Talabani have strongly condemned yesterday’s large scale attacks against the Autonomous region of Kurdistan.

In both statements its emphasised that patience and restraint has its limits and that no threats against the Kurdish people will be tolerated - should Baghdad fail to act and not be able to stop its Iran proxy militias of the Hashd al Shaabi (PMF) from carrying out further attacks against the Autonomous region of Kurdistan, then the Peshmerga will neutralise the threats to the Kurdish people themselves.

The statement of Bafel Talabani also states that a list of individuals and factions of the groups responsible for the attacks have been submitted to the central government in Baghdad.
