A 14-year-old boy lost his life early this morning after being struck by gunfire while on the roof of his home in the city of Al Hasakah.

Students and residents set up a sit-in tent in front of the United Nations Commission building in Qamishlo, in protest against the Syrian government’s policy toward Kurdish-language education and in rejection of the decision that limits its teaching to only three classes.
The protesters are demanding official recognition of the Kurdish language and the guarantee of the right to teach and study it officially within educational institutions, reaffirming their continued sit-in and activities until their demands are conveyed and their right to education in their mother tongue is defended.

We demand accountability for everyone who committed the crime or participated, incited, assisted, or covered up for those involved, and that they be brought before a fair and independent judiciary.
We do not hold an entire tribe or nationality responsible, and we do not call for revenge. We want justice for Sami and for every victim, and the law above all.
