The University of Toronto is ready to help support students in Iran seeking refuge or asylum in Canada who wish to continue their studies at U of T. We will provide bursaries to them through our Scholars at Risk Award Program, and we will match all donations to the program up to $1 million. On top of this, the University will provide needs-based awards to international students from Iran who have been admitted to U of T, through the Iranian Student Memorial Scholarship Fund, which we established in 2020 in honour of the victims of Flight PS752. We will also continue working with our government partners to find pathways for student refugees and asylum seekers to come to Canada.

The Department of Plant and Soil Sciences at the University of Delaware (UD, https://www.udel.edu/academics/colleges/canr/departments/plant-and-soil-sciences/) has fully funded M.S. or Ph.D. student openings in indoor vertical farming to start in Fall 2023. Students with a strong background in horticulture, plant/crop science, or a related field are encouraged to apply.
-- What Will You Research? --
You will study how environmental factors interact with nutrient solution factors to influence growth and quality of hydroponic food crops (leafy greens, herbs, and fruiting crops). Our research aims to improve resource use efficiency of indoor vertical farming with dynamic environmental and nutrient management strategies. Research assistantship duties are expected.

Located in Newark, Delaware, UD is within 2 hours of New York City and Washington, D.C., and within 1 hour of Philadelphia and Baltimore. Accepted M.S. and Ph.D. students will receive a highly competitive stipend (˜ $29,333/year), free tuition, and subsidized health insurance.
-- What Are the Requirements? --
A B.S. or M.S. degree before Fall 2023. An M.S. degree is required for Ph.D. applicants.
Previous research experience in at least one of the following areas: Indoor or greenhouse crop production, hydroponics, lighting, photobiology, plant physiology, and plant nutrition.
Ability to move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) and work on some weekends and holidays.
Exceptional work ethic, attention to detail, problem-solving, communication responsiveness, receptiveness to feedback, time management, and oral and written communication skills.
