This weekend, activists were out in the streets of Sherborne.

Last Sunday, members of the Homeland Party came together in Forfar to once again do battle with the menace of the Himalayan Balsam that has taken root.
This invasive species from halfway around the world spreads very quickly and can completely take over an area of land, completely drowning out native species.
Removal by hand is easy but requires a lot of people to get involved in order to make a dent due to how much Balsam has taken over.
Local activist Dave Gardner called in the troops to aid in the local effort to hold the Balsam at bay.
As with everything worth doing, these things take time, are not glamorous, you don't get a fanfare and results only show after a lot of effort.
But things do change when people put in the time and effort. And more people equals more change

From the historic grounds of Taunton Castle to the green spaces along the River Tone, Taunton reflects the character of England at its best, well-kept, orderly, and rooted in pride of place.
Looking after our surroundings is a basic duty. A nation that respects itself keeps its streets, parks and towns clean.
Small actions, done properly, preserve the beauty of our country for future generations.

Today our hard working Yorkshire activists were back out on the same field in Cottingham, finishing the job and clearing the last of the rubbish.
Plastic waste, bottles, discarded sports clothes, old football boots, a broken sign and bags of general litter, all cleared away.
Three full bags collected and properly disposed of.
This is real community action.
Boots on the ground work protecting our countryside, our communities and our country.
Yorkshire folk looking after Yorkshire soil.
Well done to all involved.

From the historic Church of St Mary Magdalene, Taunton, whose tower has stood watch over the town for centuries, to the streets and riverside paths, there is a strong sense that people want their voices heard on the issues shaping their communities.

Spending two solid hours doing proper grassroots work behind Cottingham High School’s football and rugby pitch.
Cleared litter and thick overgrowth along the fence line. Multiple bags filled with plastic bottles, crisp wrappers, old sports gear, scrap metal, a handlebar, and rusty farm tools.
The area is now visibly cleaner and tidier. Real environmental stewardship is about personal responsibility, pride in your local patch, and leaving things better than you found.
