Today, news broke that the contamination finally reached the Omani coast, 200 kilometers north of the source of the spill.

The environment authority of Oman reported rapid spread of the spill due to monsoon winds, threatening Ras Madrakah and Masirah Island.

No party ever claimed responsibility for the explosion that disabled the tanker.
