The Iranian response began at 11:00am. This means that every Iranian offensive action we've seen so far occurred *after* Khamenei was killed.

American planners were likely hoping that the initial shock would result in discoordination. Instead, the Iranians immediately jumped about halfway up their escalatory ladder by striking not just US bases in the Gulf states, but Gulf infrastructure, and retaliated dramatically faster than they did in the 12 Day War.
