— The earlier NOTAM at El Paso was issued due to the US Army at Fort Bliss using electronic warfare to intercept drones launched by Mexican drug cartels; the FAA and Department of War were not coordinating properly and the FAA decided to close the airspace due to not being able to guarantee flights' safety due to the electronic warfare measures.

Cartel drones enter American airspace numerous times every day, it is not clear if there was something different about these drones or if the US armed forces is simply taking more active measures to down these drones.
