Germany to add 100,000 active troops by 2029 in preparation for war with Russia

Germany must add 100,000 active troops to its army by 2029 in preparation for a possible war with Russia, Reuters reported on 11 September, citing a confidential paper.

The move would more than double the current number of active duty German soldiers, which now stands at 62,000. "It is imperative for the army to become sufficiently ready for war by 2029 and provide the capabilities Germany pledged by 2035," Army Chief Alfons Mais wrote in a letter dated 2 September. Mais projected Germany should add another 45,000 active troops by 2035.

What's this, Germans militarizing for another European war? Oh no, that's a new one! I don't think those numbers are realistic, considering we're nearly in 2026 and it would be an increase of about 40% over 3 years. But again, propaganda does wonders sometimes.
