Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen called the story an attempt to discredit Denmark and emphasized that no Danish soldiers have been killed in Ukraine. He noted that this kind of disinformation is part of larger influence campaigns in the context of the current serious security situation.

The story gained traction after being shared on social media, with one "Danish profile expressing condolences". The tweet of that "Danish profile" was widely shared among Russian outlets, but it turned out to be fake.
