🆘 At 5:45 am on January 2, residents of Roosevelt Island and Queens in New York were awakened by multiple tremors. At the same time, the US Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 1.7 in this area. Although there were no reports of damage or injuries, city authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the incident and assessing readiness for similar events in the future.

💬 Georgette Sinclair, a resident of the area, shared her first impressions in an interview with FOX 5 NY: "I suddenly felt my bed and the building shaking and heard a very loud sound. I woke up and thought there was an earthquake.

⚠️ Although earthquakes in this region are rare, New York residents are not immune to surprises associated with tectonic plate activity. One of the last seismic episodes occurred in May 2023 with a magnitude of 2.2, affecting areas in Westchester and New Jersey counties."
