📉 The Kashmir Valley is experiencing its harshest winter spell as *Chillai Kalan*, the most severe 40-day cold period, begins. According to the meteorological department, Srinagar recorded its coldest December night in 50 years, with temperatures plunging to -8.5°C—6.2°C below the seasonal average.

❄️ Other parts of the region are also reeling under freezing conditions. In Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in southern Kashmir, the temperature dropped to -8.6°C, while northern Kashmir recorded -7.2°C. The subzero temperatures have caused widespread freezing across the valley, with major water bodies like Dal Lake and Manasbal Lake freezing overnight.

‼️ The extreme cold has disrupted daily life, with locals reporting frozen taps and damaged water pumps after a calm, windless night. Additionally, a growing electricity crisis has exacerbated the hardships faced by residents.
