🔥 The Horton Fire grew to 1,074 acres by Sunday, December 29, 2024. The blaze continues to move east and south, particularly in the Promontory Point area, causing concern among local residents.

🆘 On Friday, the fire's size was 928 acres, but its activity has increased due to dry conditions and challenging terrain. The U.S. Forest Service reports that containment remains at 17%, making suppression efforts difficult.

To keep residents informed, a community meeting will be held today in Payson. Meanwhile, command of firefighting operations has been transferred to the SW Area Incident Management Team 1 (SW Area IMT 1), which is also investigating the fire’s suspected human cause.
