πŸ˜‰ πŸ‡¬πŸ‡Ή Social media is abuzz with a video showcasing impressive solar flares captured yesterday, June 2, 2024, in the municipality of Coatepeque, Quetzaltenango, Guatemala.

🌈 The video displays a coronal mass ejection (CME), also known as a solar flare. This phenomenon involves the ejection of plasma from the Sun's outer atmosphere, known as the corona. Coronal mass ejections can impact space weather, causing geomagnetic storms and disruptions to satellite and communication systems on Earth.

β˜€οΈThe solar weather in May 2024 was truly remarkable:

βœ”οΈ The strongest geomagnetic storm since 2003.
βœ”οΈ The highest number of sunspots since 2002.
βœ”οΈ The most powerful solar flare since 2017.

⁉️ What else is yet to come?

β˜€οΈ SOLAR WEATHER, June 5, 2024
A major (non-Earth-directed) filament eruption on the Sun was recorded by one of the satellites on June 5!

😊 In the video, you can see that filament eruptions (elongated, thread-like structures of plasma held by magnetic fields on the Sun's surface) differ from flare-associated CMEs and do not require an active region as a source. Watch how the filament dramatically expands during its journey away from the Sun! #spaceweather

🌈 The Earth was hit by heavy particles from the Sun, protons of very high energies.
--June 9, 2024--

‼️If this energy were converted into temperatures, it would correspond to about 1 billion degrees. Currently, the particle fluxes of these energies are approximately 10,000 times higher than normal levels and will remain elevated for at least 2-3 more days.

β˜€οΈ The impact was caused by a double solar flare close to class X, originating from the same active region that has been troubling Earth for the past two months.

Since the flare was on the edge of the Sun, direct hits in this situation are almost excluded, and the Earth will receive peripheral, but still quite dense, regions. The expected strength of the kinetic impact on Earth approximately corresponds to G2-level storms.

😊 Please note that in the video, the proton solar storm begins immediately after the coronal mass ejection (CME) becomes visible on the western limb of the Sun. This indicates that particles are moving at nearly the speed of light, suggesting their acceleration to relativistic speeds due to the flare. (At relativistic speeds, objects or particles acquire special properties such as increased mass, shortened length, and altered time, making their behavior distinct from classical mechanics.)

🟑 Depending on the power of X-ray radiation, solar flares are classified into five classes - A, B, C, M, and X. The minimum class A0.0 signifies radiation power at Earth's orbit of 10 nanowatts per square meter. With each increment to the next class, the power increases tenfold.

πŸ“ˆ The designation M1 denotes minor flares, M5 denotes moderate ones, X1 denotes strong flares, and X20 denotes extreme ones.

🟑 Flares are usually accompanied by ejections of solar plasma, the clouds of which, upon reaching Earth, trigger magnetic storms.

🌞 SOLAR WEATHER, June 24-25, 2024
‼️ Astronomical Observations: Two Solar Filament Eruptions

β˜€οΈRecent astronomical observations have recorded two solar filament eruptions. The first eruption occurred in the northwest quadrant of the Sun but did not produce a coronal mass ejection (CME). This was followed by the eruption of a larger filament located in the southwest quadrant.

😊 As a result of the latter eruption, an M1.1 post-flare loop was observed, continuing to grow behind the southwest limb of the Sun.

β˜€οΈ Next Friday, July 5, Earth will reach its farthest point from the Sun, known in astronomy as the solar aphelion.
This phenomenon occurs once a year and marks the moment when our planet is at the greatest distance from our star.

😊 The aphelion occurs due to the elliptical shape of Earth's orbit around the Sun. Earth's orbit is not a perfect circle but an ellipse, which means there are times when Earth is closer to the Sun (perihelion) and times when it is farther away (aphelion).

During the aphelion, Earth will be approximately 152,095,581 kilometers (94,506,364 miles) from the Sun.

🌞 The perihelion, which is the opposite (when Earth is closest to the Sun), occurred earlier this year, on January 3, 2024. At that time, Earth was approximately 147,098,925 kilometers (91,403,034 miles) from the Sun.

β˜€οΈ Powerful X1.27 Solar Flare Observed on the Sun's Surface

😊 Early this morning, on July 14, 2024, a powerful X1.27 solar flare occurred on the Sun in sunspot region AR3738 at 2:23 UTC. This event briefly ionized the upper layers of the atmosphere and caused significant radio blackout at R3 level in the western Pacific Ocean region.

⁉️ Scientists are currently studying the direction of the associated coronal mass ejection (CME).

🌈 If the CME is directed towards Earth, a G-3 geomagnetic storm is expected on Tuesday, with the possibility of observing polar auroras at unusually southern latitudes by Tuesday evening.

🟑 Solar flares are classified based on the intensity of their X-ray emissions: the most powerful belong to class X, emitting β‰₯10-1 erg/(cmΒ²s) in the 1-8 Γ… range. Class M flares are 10 times weaker, and class C flares are 100 times weaker compared to class X flares.

πŸ” Stay tuned for further updates on space weather.

β˜€οΈβ€ΌοΈ Radio blackouts could occur on Earth due to a dark plasma eruption on the Sun, reports the Daily Mail .

⚠️ The probability of this happening is 60%, according to NASA.

The eruption could disrupt aviation communications and satellite operations as early as this week.

πŸŽ₯ In the NASA video, a dark cloud of the flare can be seen erupting from the Sun, resembling black smoke.

πŸ“ SOLAR WEATHER, July 28, 2024 β˜€οΈ Solar Flare and Its Consequences

πŸ˜‰ On July 28, a powerful M9.9-class solar flare occurred near the central disk of the Sun, accompanied by a coronal wave and dimming. This flare caused a coronal mass ejection (CME) directed towards Earth. The CME is expected to reach our planet on July 31.

🟑 When such ejections reach Earth, they can cause disturbances in our planet's magnetic field, leading to geomagnetic storms. This can affect satellites, communications, and even cause the appearance of auroras. We recommend being prepared for possible communication disruptions and keeping an eye on space weather updates.

β˜€οΈ Solar Flare and Comet in One Observation! 🌠

β˜€οΈToday, October 8, 2024, a spectacular eruption of solar material was observed on the Sun, directed southward. This event was captured by the coronagraph aboard the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO).

πŸ’« At the same time, Comet C/2023 A3 appeared in the coronagraph's field of view, moving further into the observable area and potentially becoming one of the brightest comets ever recorded by SOHO.
Let’s keep an eye on these exciting phenomena in space! 🌌
