In a 1935 issue of The Canadian Nationalist, William Whittaker stated that Hitler’s regime had the potential “of placing the Jew just where he belonged.” A propaganda pamphlet distributed by the Canadian Nationalist Party (CNP) in Winnipeg during the 1930s read on the cover “Boycott Japan, Italy and Germany, and ...” Inside the phrase continued: “You will help this alien race of a people,” caricatured by a large nosed Jew, unshaven, with flies buzzing around his head. The pamphlet urged a boycott of Jewish goods, and support of German and Italian goods. The message was — defeat the Jew and in turn communism would fall. Another CNP document urged readers to “Unite solidly against ... Jewish inter-national, economic and financial domination.” The Jew was portrayed as both a communist and capitalist, and both were condemned.

Of particular attraction was the participation of the leader of the National Alliance from the USA, Dr William Pierce and, last but not least, the leader of a noteworthy Irish anti-abortion group, Justin Barret from Youth Defense.

Communists, Jews, homosexuals, feminists, anarchists, and the rest generally protest outside NPD meetings and attempt to disrupt them. That happened at an NPD meeting I attended last year, but the one this week was peaceful — perhaps because it was held in a lovely, little Bavarian town, Falkenberg, where the supply of local Jews, feminists, etc. was very limited; also because several dozen heavily armed riot police patrolled the area outside the meeting hall. If protestors had appeared, and the police hadn't been there to protect them, there were at least 200 very sturdy, young NPD members with shaved heads and heavy boots among those attending the meeting, who would have loved nothing better than to send at least twice their number of protestors to the nearest hospital emergency room.

Nazis in Cairo

Middle East Arab countries, particularly Egypt, was the haven of National Socialists after World War II as these countries rejected extradition claims in every single instance. Most of these old National Socialists found profitable employment in Nasser's anti-Jewish propaganda agencies or in one or other of the military or paramilitary organisations.
The spearhead of Arab anti-Jewish propaganda was the Institute for the Study of Zionism established in Cairo in 1955 for the purpose of leading the "struggle against Zionism and international Jewry". The Institute was heavily staffed by German National Socialists. Among the many publications of the Institute is an Arabic version of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion and Hitler's Mein Kampf, translated into Arabic by Louis Heiden, copies of which were found in the knapsacks of Egyptian soldiers during the 1956 Sinai Campaign. The Institute maintained regular contact with a number of neo-Nazi organisations in Germany and in other countries.

To understand the problem of the Islamists, we must consider that already in the past it emerged with a certain clarity that the one who pushed fundamentalism from the very beginning has always been Israel. If we think of the Arab world of the 1950s and 1960s we see that all the countries were anti-Zionist and were governed by political formations of Nasserists, or Ba'athists, or Social Nationalists who had the characteristic of strong respect for Christian communities. Many of them were Christian and had a strong opposition to any type of Islamism. We remember the very harsh repression by Assad senior.

Jean Thiriart in Cairo and Bagdad (1969)

A leader of the new fascist “Europeans”, the Belgian Jean Thiriart, recently toured the Middle East for the purpose of “coordinating Arab political information in Europe and the struggle against the gigantic lobby of the pro-Zionist press in Europe”. He was invited by the Governments of Egypt and Iraq. In Cairo he attended the congress of the Arab Socialist Union, and in Bagdad he appeared on TV; he also gave an exclusive interview to the press and radio of Lebanon.
According to a report in his monthly magazine La Nation Européenne, November 1968, Thiriart believes that the Arabs’ “foremost effort must be to organise their information in Europe”. He urged his Arab friends to distinguish between the “legal Europe” and the “real Europe — the Europe of the peoples”.
He deems it “desirable to organise military formations of European volunteers for the purpose of aiding and participating in the struggle of the Palestinian resistance”.
