#EU27: Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Jaak Madison leaves the right-wing EKRE (ID). This follows a move by the party board to expel several key members ahead of the party's leadership election this weekend.

EKRE has hereby lost the only representative in the European Parliament it has had since 2019, and the only one elected in the 2024 European Parliament election.

It was also announced that António Costa (PS-S&D) should become President of the European Council and Kaja Kallas (RE-RE) High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

#EU27: Danish right-wing O announced today they will join the new proposed group in the European Parliament—“Patriots for Europe”. With this announcement, the group would have enough MEPs from enough member states for the group to be formed.

#EU27: Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Jaak Madison (*-ECR) joins the centrist KE (RE). This follows his move to leave the right-wing EKRE (PfE) after the party board expelled several key members ahead of the party’s leadership election in June. As a result of this move, KE (RE) holds two seats in the European Parliament for the first time since 2013.

During today’s press conference, the leader of KE (RE) Mihhail Kõlvart expressed that there is a dissonance between the manifestos of his party and the ALDE Party, claiming that his party is the closest to the policy platform of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR).
