#France: President Emmanuel Macron (RE-RE) will accept Prime Minister Gabriel Attal’s (RE-RE) resignation at the end of the day, according to Agence France-Presse.

The government will stay in place in a caretaker capacity until a new cabinet is appointed. Formally resigning allows ministers who also are members of parliament to vote for the National Assembly’s top jobs.

#France: President Emmanuel Macron (RE-RE) has decided not to appoint Lucie Castets (*) as Prime Minister and rules out any left-wing government in the name of "institutional stability". He is set to launch new consultations on Tuesday and urges the PS (S&D), LÉ (G/EFA) and the PCF (LEFT) to "cooperate with the other political forces".

Lucie Castets was the Prime Minister candidate of the Nouveau Front populaire (NFP-LEFT|G/EFA|S&D), which holds a relative majority with 193 seats in the National Assembly.

#France: President Emmanuel Macron (RE-RE) has appointed Michel Barnier (LR-EPP) as Prime Minister and asked him to form a government.

A former Member of Parliament, minister, and Member of the European Parliament, Michel Barnier is best known for his role as the European Commission’s Head of the UK Task Force between 2019 and 2021.

With a combined 213 seats, Ensemble, the presidential coalition, and LR are still short of an absolute majority but would be the biggest bloc in the National Assembly. During the past legislature, Ensemble governed with a de facto external support from LR.

Barnier lost the National Assembly’s confidence and president Emmanuel Macron (RE-RE) will have to nominate a new Prime Minister. The social security budget bill is also rejected.

After 1962, this is the second time in the history of the Fifth Republic that a motion of no confidence has been adopted.
