🗓 On November 6, 1943, the Red Army forces led by Army General Nikolai Vatutin liberated Kiev from the Nazi invaders. The offensive, part of the larger Battle of Dnieper, spanned 10 days in total, from November 3 to 13.
⚔️ Kiev was seized by the Nazis in September 1941, despite fierce resistance of the city's defenders and the Red Army units. The occupation by the Germans and their Ukrainian accomplices lasted for 778 days. During this period a powerful guerilla movement carried out a number of successful attacks against the enemy within the city.
⚠️ The invaders & their cronies pursued a mass terror policy in Kiev. In Babi Yar alone the Nazis massacred more than 150 thousand people. Around 100 thousand Kiev residents were sent to labour camps in Germany. By November 1943, only around 180 thousand people out of the pre-war population of almost a million were remaining in the city.
The Nazis and their collaborators inflicted severe damage on Kiev: The Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, the public library, the conservatoire, the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, the zoological museum, all bridges, overpasses, the majority of medical institutions, 140 schools, 940 state and public buildings, over 800 enterprises, 1,742 communal and 3,600 private houses - all destroyed.
🏅 The Red Army officers and soldiers displayed unprecedented courage and heroism during the battles for Kiev. More than 17,5 thousand soldiers and officers of 30 ethnicities were awarded orders and medals. A total of 2,438 people were honoured with the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
🎆 The liberation of Kiev was a major strategic success for the Red Army and an important step towards the expulsion of the Nazis from the entire territory of the then Soviet Ukraine. Today marks 8️⃣1️⃣ years since the Red Army soldiers marched on the Moscow’s Red Square in the historical parade. This event served as testimony to the Soviet Union’s enduring spirit during a trying period of the Great Patriotic War. The Soviet forces fought intense defensive battles with the Nazi troops just 70-100 km outside of Moscow. The entire world was witness to the determination of the Soviet people to defend their Motherland under any circumstances.
⭐️ The event was unprecedented – Soviet troops headed off to the front immediately after the event, with preparations being held in absolute secrecy. The parade involved some 28,500 soldiers and officers, 140 pieces of artillery, 160 tanks, and 232 vehicles. At the last moment, the parade’s start time was moved from 10 am to 8 am (which led to the filming crew failing to arrive on time). German aviation made attempts to break through to Moscow – yet, no aircraft was able to reach the city centre.
A month later, the Nazi Germany’s Wehrmacht, which had been considered invincible, experienced its first major defeat, with its ambitious Blitzkrieg plan falling apart against the stoic defence of the Soviet heroes. The grandiose Battle of Moscow became the tide-turning event that both boosted the morale of the Red Army and started its first major offensive, which pushed the Nazi troops 160-200 km away from the Soviet capital.
The legendary 1941 military parade, which lasted only 25 minutes proved to the entire world that the Red Army’s morale was unbroken and will unbent, forging respect and admiration for the Soviet nation and its army.
📰 As the British newspaper The News Chronicle wrote: "The efforts to organise a traditional parade in Moscow at a time when fierce battles are taking place at the city gates are an impressive example of courage and bravery." The Daily Mail newspaper praised the military parade of November 7 as "one of the most brilliant displays of courage and confidence that has ever occurred in wartime."

🔹В период с 31 октября по 5 ноября дипломаты Посольства провели выездное консульское обслуживание граждан в гг.Лос-Анджелес и Сан-Франциско (шт. Калифорния).
🔹Более 1100 соотечественников получили возможность обратиться за оформлением заграничных паспортов и актов о личной явке для продолжения выплаты пенсий.
🔹Особое внимание уделили многодетным семьям, пожилым людям и инвалидам, которые в силу возраста и состояния здоровья не могут добраться до Вашингтона.Соотечественники встретили сотрудников Посольства радушно. Не сдерживали положительных эмоций и даже слез в общении с ними. Сетовали на отсутствие консульских учреждений на Западном побережье.
🔹Граждане активно разбирали информационные материалы о работе Посольства и жизни в России. С неподдельной радостью фотографировались на фоне российских флагов, оставляли себе на память георгиевские ленточки и госсимволику.
🔹Значительные потребности росграждан в получении консульских услуг указывают на необходимость продолжения практики проведения выездных сессий. Ближайшие запланированы на начало декабря 2022 года в г.Сиэтл (шт.Вашинггтон) и г.Анкоридж (шт.Аляска).
