Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov revealed late last year that nine countries would become BRICS partners at the start of the year. These are Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan. He also said that responses are expected in the near future from four other countries. Brazil then announced shortly thereafter that Indonesia had become a full member. These developments will help BRICS accelerate financial multipolarity processes.

To remind the reader, BRICS is a voluntary association of countries whose representatives participate in over 200 events every year before its annual leaders’ summit, which always produce detailed but non-binding political declarations about their shared approaches towards a host of issues. Members actively participate in BRICS’ elite-networking, knowledge-sharing, and leaders’ activities, partners have limited roles in the aforesaid, while everyone else hears about the outcome of their work afterward.
