Many countries are facing a severe health financing crunch. Health budgets have been under pressure and dramatic cuts in official development assistance have turned the screw even tighter. Now is the time to accelerate the transition to sustainable health financing: https://bit.ly/g7Canada #G7

For over 100 days, no fuel has entered #Gaza, and attempts to retrieve fuel stocks from evacuation zones have been denied. This is pushing the health system closer to the brink of collapse.

17 hospitals, 7 field hospitals and 43 primary health centers — barely running on minimum daily fuel — will soon have none left.

No fuel means no power for ventilators, dialysis machines, anesthesia equipment and incubators.

No fuel means no medical evacuations or patient transfers can take place.

No fuel means vaccine cold chain systems could fail.

No fuel means no functioning field hospitals.

No fuel means no delivery of medicines and supplies.

No fuel means no water and sanitation services.

No fuel means no health care.

Let fuel and medical supplies into Gaza through all possible routes. Ceasefire. NOW!

The escalation of violence between Israel and Iran is extremely concerning — and is costing the lives of civilians, including children. The growing number of injured civilians are also distressing.

WHO’s particular concern is the targeting of nuclear sites, which may have immediate and long-term impacts on the environment and health of people in Iran and across the region.

We call on all parties to work towards peace. The most courageous choose peace.

Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, #Gaza, is struggling to stay operational amid relentless strain and lack of supplies - WHO and partners assessed during a mission today.

Yesterday, the hospital received over 300 injured people, reportedly linked to two incidents near non-UN militarized food distribution sites where 75 people died, including 11 children.

590 patients are currently hospitalized - almost double Nasser’s capacity. and 51 patients are intubated.

A WHO-supported tent, meant for pediatric and surgical care, now serves as an overcrowded trauma ward with 100 beds—despite being built for 88.

The hospital is unable to increase its capacity due to lack of ventilators, monitors, beds and staff.

Nasser is located within the evacuation zone. Many health workers cannot reach the hospital due to fear for safety or lack of fuel for transportation.

Today, WHO delivered a minimum amount of fuel—enough to sustain just five more days of operation. Without additional fuel, services will begin shutting down.

WHO once again calls for the protection of the hospital; for unimpeded entry of health aid and fuel into and across Gaza via all possible routes. Time is ticking to save lives. Ceasefire!

The escalation of hostilities between #Israel and #Iran is putting health facilities and access to health care at risk. The reports on the attacks on health so far are appalling.

This morning's attack on Soroka Medical Center in Israel -- the only major hospital in the south -- resulted in dozens of patients being injured, some severely; 250 patients being evacuated to other health facilities; and damage to the facility, leaving it only partially functional.

Following an airstrike on Tehran three days ago, three Iranian Red Crescent Society health workers were killed while reportedly rescuing injured people. On the same day, a hospital in Kermanshah was impacted by a nearby explosion, causing damage to the intensive care unit. As a result, around 15 staff and patients were injured.

We call on all parties to protect health facilities, health personnel and patients at all times.

The best medicine is peace.

The right to health does not begin or end at a country’s border.

Refugees and forcibly displaced people must have uninterrupted, affordable and equitable access to health services wherever they are, at any time.

The partnership between Rotary and WHO goes back since 1988. In fact, Rotary were the pathfinders in first proposing the #EndPolio idea – inspired by the historic eradication of smallpox.

And today, we are on the cusp of history, despite the setbacks.

Rotarians are showing what the world can be:

A world where courage defeats fear;

Where community defeats indifference;

Where determination defeats disease;

Where peace defeats war;

A world where your motto – service above self – really matters.

If the world spent as much money on vaccines as it does on war, it would be a different place.

Yesterday WHO delivered its first medical shipment into #Gaza since 2 March - 9 trucks carrying essential medical supplies, 2000 units of blood, and 1500 units of plasma.

The supplies were transported from Kerem Shalom, without any looting incident, despite the high-risk conditions along the route.

These supplies will be distributed to priority hospitals in the coming days. The blood and plasma were delivered to Nasser Medical Complex’s cold storage facility for onward distribution to hospitals facing critical shortages, amid a growing influx of injuries, many linked to incidents at food distribution sites.

Four WHO trucks are still at Kerem Shalom and more are en route to Gaza.

WHO thanks the Ministry of Health and UN for its support.

However, these medical supplies are only a drop in the ocean. Aid at scale is essential to save lives.

WHO calls for the immediate, unimpeded and sustained delivery of health aid into Gaza through all possible routes.

I urge the world: don’t forget the people of #Sudan.

Ongoing fighting has displaced more people than in any other crisis in the world.

Health facilities are out of service or only providing limited care.

Diseases are spreading fast.

We need urgent funding.

We need access to make sure people receive the health care they need.

As the #IAS2025 starts today, WHO remains steadfast in our commitment to achieving the end of AIDS in our lifetime, and calls on world leaders to:

Embrace meaningful partnerships — especially with people living with #HIV and key populations;

Support global HIV research;

Prioritize HIV prevention;

Protect human rights;

And reject the politicization of science and scientific institutions.

I thank the Government of #Rwanda for hosting this important meeting, and I am pleased that it’s taking place in my home, Africa.

.@WHO’s staff residence in Deir al Balah, #Gaza, was attacked three times today as well as its main warehouse.

Israeli military entered the premises, forcing women and children to evacuate on foot toward Al-Mawasi amid active conflict. Male staff and family members were handcuffed, stripped, interrogated on the spot and screened at gunpoint.

Two WHO staff and two family members were detained. Three were later released, while one staff remains in detention.

32 WHO staff and family members were evacuated to the WHO office once access became possible.

WHO demands the immediate release of the detained staff and protection of all its staff.

The latest evacuation order in Deir al Balah has affected several WHO premises, compromising our ability to operate in Gaza and pushing the health system further towards collapse.

WHO’s main warehouse located in Deir al Balah is within the evacuation zone, and was damaged yesterday when an attack caused explosions and a fire inside.

With the main warehouse nonfunctional and the majority of medical supplies in Gaza depleted, WHO is severely constrained in adequately supporting hospitals, emergency medical teams and health partners, already critically short on medicines, fuel, and equipment.

WHO urgently calls on Member States to help ensure a sustained and regular flow of medical supplies into Gaza.

As the lead agency for health, compromising WHO’s operations is crippling the entire health response in Gaza.

A ceasefire is not just necessary, it is overdue.
