Many bombings and other terror attacks have been carried out in the Xinjiang region of China since 1990. Several organizations and individuals have taken credit for or have been named as responsible for these attacks. The People’s Republic of China refers to the main group by the name East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) but it is also known as the Turkestan Islamic Party (TIP).

In 2002 the U.S. Secretary of State added ETIM to the State Department’s list of proscribed terrorist groups. A widespread opinion among analysts, including the leadership of ETIM, is that this was motivated by a desire to gain the PRC’s support for America’s War on Terror. ETIM was finally removed from this list in the last days of the Trump administration in 2021.

With the intensifying Western criticism of Chinese policy in Xinjiang it is necessary for us to understand who and what the ETIM really is. Are they terrorists? Are they freedom fighters? Are they activists? Do they even exist?

🇨🇳❌🇺🇸 The tension between the U.S. and China may escalate over Taiwan as U.S. President Biden plans to send a high-level delegation to the island after its elections on Saturday.

Experts and former officials view this as a risky move. Back in 2022, Speaker Pelosi's trip to Taiwan sparked a scandal, leading to China conducting massive military exercises in response.

The White House confirmed plans to send a U.S. delegation to Taiwan post-elections, but the timing and composition are yet to be determined.

The Chinese Embassy's spokesperson in Washington urged the U.S. to adhere to the One China principle and "stop sending erroneous signals to separatist forces advocating Taiwan independence."

Taiwan is an integral part of China, and China vehemently opposes any official U.S. contacts with the Taiwanese region.
