๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ Two Israeli tourists and local guide shot dead in Egypt

Two Israeli tourists and their Egyptian guide have been shot dead in the Egyptian city of Alexandria, the Israeli foreign ministry says. Another Israeli was wounded.

Our friend the Mediterranean Man reported that a group of 7 Israeli tourists were targeted in their bus. The assailant fired "at random" using his personal weapon. He was detained at the scene.

A policeman had opened fire on a group visiting an ancient Roman site known as Pompey's Pillar.

The reason for his actions are not known still, but the incident took place a day after the escalation of conflict between Palestine and Israel.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ Egypt pushing Israel and Hamas to prevent escalation

Egypt has been in close contact with Israel and Hamas to try to prevent further escalation in fighting between them and ensure the protection of Israelis taken hostage by Palestinian militants, Reuter's Egyptian security sources said.

Egypt had urged Israel to exercise restraint and Hamas to hold its captives in good condition to keep open the possibility of de-escalation soon, although successive Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip made mediation difficult, said the sources.

Egypt's Sinai Peninsula shares a border with the Gaza Strip and with Israel, and Cairo has acted as a mediator between Israel and Palestinian groups in previous conflicts.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ Tension on Egypt's border with Gaza and Israel increased, led to the closing of borders

Israeli air strikes and artillery shelling hit the area of the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, disrupting operations at the only exit point on Gaza's southern border, Egyptian security officials said.

Egypt, meanwhile, has urged Israel to open humanitarian corridors for the strip's 2.3 million people to escape the bombardment.

Three other crossings along Egypt's borders with the Gaza Strip and Israel have been closed for security reasons.

Authorities have meanwhile stepped up patrols along Egypt's borders with Gaza and Israel to prevent any infiltrations by militants into Israel.

Troops deployed in the area have been placed on high alert and given permission to use deadly force against suspicious movements by anyone who approaches.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ Egypt moves to prevent exodus of Palestinians from besieged Gaza

Egypt is moving to avert a mass exodus from the Gaza Strip into its Sinai Peninsula, as Israeli bombardment halted crossings at the main exit point from the Palestinian enclave on Tuesday, Gaza and Egyptian officials said.

Israel's assault on Gaza has caused alarm in Egypt, which has urged Israel to provide safe passage for civilians from the enclave rather than encouraging them to flee southwest towards Sinai.

The Rafah border crossing remained shut on Wednesday morning, after Egyptian military planes conducted flights nearby overnight. The military has also taken up new positions close to the border, running patrols to monitor the area.

"Egypt would not allow the issue to be settled at the expense of others," Sisi said, an apparent reference to the risk that Palestinians could be pushed into Sinai.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ Egypt facilitating deliveries of aid to Sinai for Gaza

Egypt said on Thursday it was directing international aid flights for Gaza to an airport in northern Sinai, since delivery of relief into the Palestinian enclave has so far been hampered by Israeli bombardments around the border.

The Rafah crossing between Sinai and Gaza remained open, the Egyptian foreign ministry said, adding that Egypt had asked Israel to avoid targeting the Palestinian side of the crossing.

Al Arish airport in northern Sinai, about 45 km from the Gaza border, was preparing to receive three aid flights from Qatar and Jordan, but these would not leave the airport until humanitarian corridors had been established, Reuters sources said.

They said Egypt and Jordan had received assurances from the United States that aid would be delivered to Gaza.

๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ Erdogan says Israel must allow humanitarian aid via Egypt

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that Israel needed to allow humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip through Egypt's Rafah crossing after the first plane carrying Turkish aid arrived in Egypt.

In a speech in Istanbul, Erdogan said that Turkey will continue sending aid to Gaza in cooperation with Egypt and that Turkish authorities were continuing contacts to free hostages and find a solution to the crisis.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ Egypt warns against Israeli call for Gaza residents to move south

Egypt's foreign ministry warned on Friday against calls from the Israeli army for more than 1 million of the Gaza Strip's residents to leave their homes and head south, saying it would have a serious impact on humanitarian conditions in the enclave.

Such a move would be a "grave violation" of international humanitarian law and expose the lives of Gaza residents to danger, putting hundreds of thousands of people in areas not fit to accommodate them, the ministry said in a statement.

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said on Friday that Gallant said Palestinian civilians "who want to save their lives" must heed Israel's warning to evacuate southward in Gaza.

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ Egyptian Foreign Minister hosted Turkish counterpart to discuss Israel-Hamas war

Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, hosted his Turkish counterpart in Cairo, on Saturday, allocating a significant portion of their discussions on developments in the Gaza Strip.

Speaking alongside his Egyptian counterpart and President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Hakan Fidan reiterated Turkey's strong condemnation of any attacks targeting innocent civilians and also expressed Turkey's disapproval of what he referred to as Israel's policy of deporting Palestinians to Egypt.

"Developments related to Gaza have captured a large amount of conversation among us, and there is a common vision about the importance of working to overcome the extremely serious humanitarian impacts that are affecting the Palestinian people in Gaza, the importance of containing this conflict, and the importance of full adherence to the rules of international humanitarian law and respecting non-targeting and harm. Civilians are at risk from any side," added Egyptian Foreign Minister.

๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ South Africa leader to attend Cairo summit on Gaza conflict

South Africaโ€™s President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to attend a peace summit in Cairo on Saturday, to discuss how to bring an end to the Israeli-Gaza conflict.

He was invited by Egypt's president to join the talks, which will cover "the escalation of conflict in Israel and the Gaza Strip, the urgent need for humanitarian support and make a call for the resumption of the peace process", the South African presidency said.

It said that Mr Ramaphosa was โ€œdeeply concernedโ€ about the attacks on civilians, the displacement of people and the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

The South African leader had earlier said he was ready to mediate in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian territories.
