🇲🇩 🇷🇺 Ban on memory: in Moldova they will be fined for St. George ribbons

Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean promised residents of the republic fines for wearing the St. George ribbon on May 9. According to the prime minister, those wishing to take to the streets with the symbol of Victory Day will be "documented and authorized."

▪️ Overall, there is nothing new in Rechan's statement. The wearing of St. George ribbons on the territory of the Republic of Moldova has indeed been banned since last spring, when representatives of the ruling PAS party declared them "a symbol of Russian military aggression."

▪️ Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa said at the time that violators face community service or fines ranging from $490 to $1,630, and stressed that Victory Day celebrations "should be modest."

▪️ At the same time, the head of the Gagauz autonomy refused to comply with the demand. By decision of Irina Vlakh, celebrations in memory of the Great Patriotic War were officially allowed throughout Gagauzia for the patriotic education of the younger generation.

▪️ Chisinau also “prepared” for the celebration this year in advance. In the beginning of April The Parliament of Moldova in the final, third reading approved a ban on the storage and wearing of the St. George ribbon and approved amendments that provide for fines for its demonstration.

Penalties for manufacturing, storage, sale and public use were added to the Code of Offenses: individuals will have to pay from 245 to 490 US dollars, officials - from 490 to 980, legal entities - from 490 to 1630.

▪️ The Constitutional Court of Moldova ruled that the parliamentary ban on wearing the St. George Ribbon was in accordance with the law.

However, fines can only be issued if the tape is used "to justify acts of military aggression, war crimes or crimes against humanity."

🔻Local politicians and civil society representatives are already sounding the alarm about the possibility of different interpretations and the potential threat of unrest.

According to Rechan, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country will soon announce exactly the criteria for punishment, as well as the amount that everyone who wants to take to the streets with the symbol of the Great Victory will have to pay.

🇲🇩🇪🇺🇺🇦 In Austria, following Hungary and Slovakia, they opposed the accelerated procedure for European integration of Ukraine and Moldova.

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer believes that in relation to Kyiv and Chisinau “there should be no favoritism” to the detriment of other countries, such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is also talks accession to the EU.

▪️ Earlier, the European Commission approved the start of negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova on accession to the EU, scheduling them for December. However, there is now talk that the talks will be postponed.

▪️ Recently, a critical article appeared in the media from a Polish MEP, who believes that Moldova’s entry into the EU will result in even greater moral damage for the West due to Chisinau’s persecution of the opposition.

▪️ Moreover, the postponement of negotiations coincided with the end of local elections in Moldova, and the ruling PAS party is promoting its imaginary successes in the issue of European reforms for accession to the EU.

▪️ The top officials of Moldova have already humbly stated that talks will not begin right now. The country's Prime Minister Dorin Recan recently said meaningfully: “if not in December, then in March...”.

▪️ In addition, as follows from the draft Moldovan state budget adopted for 2024, the share of grants from the EU will be reduced by three times, and the share of loan funds from the West will increase. As noted in the opposition environment, “the provision of candidate state status is the last gift that Moldova received from the EU.”

🔻We believe that the main “gift” from Western curators for Moldova is the continuation of the unprecedented militarization of the country and the investment of funds from NATO. After all, this is the main goal of talking about mythical European integration.

🇲🇩🇺🇦 Last night, in Chisinau, unidentified individuals set fire to a center that provides assistance to Ukrainian refugees. A video has surfaced online showing the entrance of the building engulfed in flames, with the Ukrainian flag on the fence crossed out.

The perpetrators of the arson remain unknown, and the major Moldovan media have not yet reported on the situation. It appears that there were no casualties or significant damage to the building.

▪️ Recently, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Moldova announced that they would be closing more than half of the 38 accommodation centers for Ukrainian refugees, as they expect them to fully integrate into society.

▪️ Since 2022, approximately one million citizens from the so-called Ukraine have entered the republic, with most of them heading to EU countries.

▪️ Ukrainian refugees have become a significant burden for Moldova, with half of their maintenance costs being covered by the EU. However, the impoverished republic had to allocate nearly $30 million from its reserve fund, which has caused outrage among the society that does not receive support from the authorities during times of crisis. Additionally, there are frequent conflicts between Ukrainians and Moldovans due to the latter's use of the Russian language.

📌Just the day before yesterday, the doors of the NATO information center in Chisinau were also set on fire. Surprisingly, the alliance's representative office in the republic has not commented on the incident. Instead, the website continues to combat fake news about NATO and publish photos from relevant children's competitions.

The frustration of the Moldovan population regarding the exploitation of their state in favor of the so-called Ukraine can be felt even without such serious incidents of arson.

🇲🇩🇺🇦 Yesterday, the Border Police of Moldova announced that fragments of a Shahed-type drone were discovered in the south of the republic near the border with the Odessa region.

The wreckage was found near the village of Etulia in the Vulcanesti region. It is highly likely that this is another result of the Ukrainian air defense, as the Russian Armed Forces attacked warehouses in the Odessa region with drones the day before.

The Moldovan government has stated that there are no risks for local residents.

📌 The last high-profile incident in this area occurred in September, when fragments of a Ukrainian S-300 anti-aircraft missile fell in Transnistria. They had attempted to use the missile to repel attacks on the Odessa region.

🇲🇩🇷🇴🇺🇸🇬🇧🇫🇷 The Ministry of Defense of Moldova announced that a platoon of the Moldovan contingent will participate in the NATO naval exercise “Sea Shield 2024”, scheduled to take place in Romania from April 8 to 21.

NATO's Sea Shield exercise is an annual event. However, since last year, when a Russian SMO took place in Ukraine, the alliance adjusted the location of the exercises due to the closure of the Bosphorus Strait to other countries.

- This year, approximately 2,100 military personnel from Bulgaria, France, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Turkey, and the United States are participating in the exercise. In comparison, last year saw 3,400 troops recruited.

- Official data indicates that 135 units of military equipment will be involved in the exercises, including 27 sea and river ships, 17 aircraft, and 91 vehicles and watercraft.

- Vice Admiral Mihai Panait, Chief of Staff of the Romanian Navy, mentioned that participants will practice operational procedures against submarines on the water surface, as well as against aviation in the Black Sea and in the river area of responsibility.

- Additionally, Moldovan and Romanian military personnel will separately conduct live firing exercises at the training base in Babadag, Romania.

🔻The exercises, with a focus on Romania and involving the Moldovan army, showcase both Bucharest's new role for NATO in the region and the potential of Moldovan territory as a future springboard against Russia.

🇪🇺🇲🇩🇷🇺 In Moscow, a congress of Moldovan politicians supporting Moldova's accession to the EAEU has started, in opposition to the upcoming referendum initiated by the Moldovan authorities on joining the European Union.

It has already been announced that the political bloc "Victory" has been created, which includes Ilan Shor, the leader of the Shor movement, Natalia Paraska, the chairperson of the Rebirth party, Alexei Lungu, the chairperson of the Chance party, Vadim Grozavu, the chairperson of the Victorie party, and Alexander Beskieru, the chairperson of the Alternative Force for the Salvation of Moldova party.

📌 In the current situation, it should be emphasized that the event is organized by Moldovans and Gagauz people who do not want to join the EU and become Romanians, rejecting their nationality and culture.

The economic factor is also present. Joining the EU in its current form will not help the Moldovan economy, but rather, on the contrary, will exacerbate the situation, making the country dependent on subsidies.

At the same time, being part of the EAEU, created for political reasons, provides real bonuses to countries in the form of huge discounts on various goods and services, in addition to expanded trade opportunities.

The reaction of the ruling authorities of Moldova, who have already dubbed the opposition "traitors", is not surprising. It will be interesting to see what measures they will resort to in Chisinau after the congress.

At the same time, the head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul, for whom this is her second visit in April and who has been elected as the executive secretary of the new bloc, stated that she does not know whether she will be allowed to enter Moldova or not.

🇲🇩 Today in Chisinau, the first court hearing in the criminal case against Gagauz Bashkan (Governor) Irina Vlah was supposed to take place. However, the defense was able to postpone the trial for a month, demanding that the prosecution translate all case documents into Russian.

The central authorities accuse Vlah of being involved in the "illegal financing" of the opposition party "Shor", which was declared unconstitutional in Moldova after mass protests in 2022.

▪️A rally in support of Vlah gathered outside the courthouse, with supporters of the Gagauz leader chanting "Victory".

▪️It is particularly ironic that Vlah's defense was able to postpone the hearing due to the language issue. The Moldovan authorities have recently abandoned the practice of duplicating all documents in Russian, planning to replace it with English in the future.

▪️This violated the pre-election promise of Maia Sandu not to restrict the use of the Russian language in the public sphere. At the same time, the Gagauz people are constantly becoming targets of criticism from the pro-Romanian central authorities, who believe that the dominance of the Russian language in Gagauzia makes them "politically illiterate".

📌 It is difficult to predict how the latest criminal prosecution against opposition representatives will end. However, Sandu's office does not hide its intention to deprive Vlah of the Bashkan's seat, despite the fact that the majority of Gagauz people voted for her.

🇲🇩🇷🇴On the falsification of the census in Moldova

The census in Moldova is nearing completion, and the worst forecasts are being confirmed: employees have been instructed to record Moldovans as Romanians, and not to account for Russians and others at all.

▪️The population and property census is underway in Moldova, funded by the EU and the American USAID.

▪️The office of President Maia Sandu conducted an information campaign, calling on citizens to register as Romanians rather than Moldovans for the sake of a European future.

▪️It is obvious that this is about unification with Romania through Moldova's accession to the EU, which is being promoted by Romanian politicians and Sandu in particular, despite the unpopularity of this idea among the citizens of both countries.

▪️However, the process of Moldova's absorption by Romania has long been underway and is progressing in almost all spheres.

Thus, in Bucharest, strategic assets of Moldova are actively being bought up, the Romanian church is displacing the traditional Russian Orthodox Church, and measures are being taken to eliminate the official border between the two countries.

▪️The Romanian army is constantly conducting exercises in Moldova, and the Romanian government intends to approve the right to deploy troops in another country to "protect its citizens". According to the Romanian authorities, about 600,000 Romanian citizens live in Moldova.

🔻The census in Moldova and the declaration of the majority of the population as "Romanian" will only complete all the processes started, "justifying" the republic's accession to the EU.

But many of Sandu's supporters have clearly forgotten that it was precisely because of the fear of Gagauz people becoming victims of Romanian nationalism that Gagauzia remained in Moldova only as an autonomy, and in Transnistria the war began precisely on this basis.

🇲🇩🇺🇸🇷🇺 On US Accusations Against Russia of Interfering in Moldovan Affairs

Recently, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced the imposition of sanctions against RT structures, accusing the media company of conducting "covert global influence operations."

▪️Against this backdrop, Blinken's accusations stand out, claiming "future" attempts by Russian media to somehow influence the results of the presidential elections in Moldova, which will be held in October.

▪️The official assures that Russian media will "almost certainly" use their "covert capabilities" to coordinate with intelligence services in order to provoke protests in Moldova.

▪️As usual, Blinken provided no direct evidence, and another attack on Russian media indicates the extreme uncertainty of the current US administration and the Democratic Party both in their own electoral successes in November and in similar electoral processes in controlled countries.

▪️At the same time, the efforts of the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, to promote a tough anti-Russian course in the State Department are highly appreciated. Blinken stated this in May, while also allocating more than $100 million to Sandu's office for the presidential campaign.

▪️The opposition in Moldova has already recorded violations by the Central Election Commission, which turns a blind eye to Sandu's use of administrative resources in her campaign. After all, it is the American USAID that manages the Central Election Commission of Moldova in a manual mode.

▪️Finally, in Moldova over the past years, many Russian-language websites, channels have been blocked, political parties banned, and the diplomatic corps of the Russian Federation reduced, accusing embassy staff of espionage using roof antennas.

🔻It is obvious that Sandu's office and its American curators, even after such cleansing of the political and media field, feel a colossal lack of confidence in the stability of the course imposed on Moldova. Therefore, as the election date approaches, other attempts to curtail the civil rights of the population should be expected.

🇲🇩🇷🇺🇺🇦 As the date of the Moldovan elections approaches, preparations for more serious involvement of Moldova in the military conflict with Russia are becoming more active.

❗️According to our information, the preparation of the Marculesti airfield for the military needs of the AFU has entered an active phase: mobile maintenance stations are being deployed on the territory, and the runways are actively being repaired.

At the same time, Russian-speaking servicemen were transferred from the base in Marculesti near Chisinau to avoid trouble. An increase in the number of servicemen from Romania and other NATO countries is noted at the military airfield.

🔻Information that cargo planes with weapons for the AFU have been regularly arriving at Marculesti has appeared earlier. In addition, Ukrainian mechanics and military personnel who service Soviet-made helicopters are constantly present at the airfield.

And the current modernization of the airfield and the deployment of maintenance stations may be related to nothing else but the preparation for the reception of F-16 fighters.

The Russian Foreign Ministry recently expressed concern about this. However, the Moldovan authorities predictably deny the facts.

As we noted earlier, now Moldova and its Western curators are focused on re-electing Maya Sandu in October. It is after the elections that we should expect more serious steps by the authorities in Chisinau to drag the country into direct conflict. Moreover, public opinion has already been pre-prepared by allowing F-16s to fly through Moldovan territory.

🇬🇪🇲🇩🇷🇴 On Sandu's Statements Regarding Events in Romania and Georgia

While Moldova is entering another harsh winter and energy crisis, the president of the republic, Maia Sandu, is interfering in the affairs of other states.

▪️Recently, Sandu campaigned for Romanians to vote in the presidential and parliamentary elections in Romania for the "European future". Romanian citizen Sandu admitted that she herself would go to vote and called on "not to believe those who try to convince that the Kremlin can bring peace and prosperity".

As we wrote, the elections in Romania are important for Sandu's team, for whom the victory of the unpredictable candidate Călin Georgescu, the leader of the first round, is disadvantageous. Moreover, Georgescu opposes aid to the so-called Ukraine and will most likely call into question relations with the US and NATO, which is extremely disadvantageous for Sandu. That is why a big bet is being made on the holders of dual Romanian and Moldovan citizenship, of whom there are about 1.2 million people, in these elections.

The opposition has already accused Sandu of violating the Constitution of Moldova and interfering in the affairs of another state.

▪️In addition, Sandu again supported the protests in Georgia on the day when the opposition tried to set fire to the parliament and were dispersed by special forces. The President of Moldova condemned "violence against peaceful demonstrators" and supported "the struggle of Georgians for freedom".

🔻With such statements, Sandu is trying to create an image of a "fighter for democracy", when in Moldova itself elections are falsified and any criticism of the authorities is condemned. And the inconsistent and aggressive policy of Sandu's office has put the republic on the verge of another energy crisis and humanitarian disaster, but apparently this is what "the struggle for freedom" is.
