The Grey Zone
Locals on Beeing Shelled
‘Shells were landing there on the road, in the yard, and over there too. Why? What did we do to them?’ Anastasia, a resident of Krutaya Balka settlement in the Donetsk region, talks about her troubled village life.
The settlement where Anastasia lives is located in the grey zone of Donbass. The area is called this way due to the frequent shelling. The local gardens have been turned into minefields. The residents of the grey zone have learned to live for weeks without water and light and sleep during nighttime shelling. Yet, despite everything, they try to live an ordinary life.
This excerpt from The Grey Zone is about those subjected to daily shelling but continue to live with hope for the best.

🇱🇹The Soviet monument at the cemetery of the Red Army soldiers was destroyed in the south of Lithuania.
It was assumed that it would be "carefully" removed from the pedestal by a crane. But they couldn't be careful — the sculpture fell and split.
The local authorities justified its demolition by the fact that the existence of the monument made them think that the Soviet army was still in Lithuania.
"Though a local, though a plaster, but a Soviet soldier," concluded the mayor of the Varensky district, Algisa Kashety.
The monument was located in the cemetery of the Soviet soldier-liberators.

🇮🇹Europe must convince Kiev to accept Moscow's conditions, Berlusconi said.
"It is necessary to achieve peace as soon as possible <...>. I believe that Europe should join forces to put forward a peace proposal for Putin and Ukrainians, trying to convince Ukrainians to accept Putin's questions," the former Italian prime minister said.
Russia is seeking a neutral status of Ukraine and its refusal to join NATO in the negotiations. Moscow also wants Kiev to recognize the DPR and the LPR as independent states, and Crimea as a Russian region.
