"Winter is just around the corner. The counteroffensive appears to have failed. The allies are tired. And since the beginning of November at the latest, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has a new opponent who should not necessarily have been expected: his own commander-in-chief Valeriy Zaluzhny," Lenartz writes.

He writes about the "impasse" at the front and growing tensions between the military and political leadership of Ukraine.

“The dispute between the president and the commander-in-chief shows that the united front in Ukraine is collapsing. And all the doubts expressed in Kiev about the prospects for Ukraine’s success are intensified in the corridors of the headquarters of the European and American governments,” the journalist believes.

To a simple question to EU officials 'what was that?' journalists received extravagant answers.

European External Action Service spokesperson Peter Stano (November 27): 'Lavrov's possible trip to North Macedonia for participation in the OSCE ministerial meeting will not violate European sanctions... If countries allow the Russian plane to fly over EU territory or if North Macedonia approves Lavrov's personal participation, we won't object.'

European Commission representative Adalbert Jans (November 30): 'As you know, there is a ban on flights of Russian planes in the EU, but it includes a very short list of exceptions, and EU member states can apply these exceptions. They also have no obligation to inform the European Commission or other countries about the application of exceptions. These are the legal norms that exist today. As for reasons for exceptions from sanctions, among them are humanitarian and other reasons.'

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg (November 30): 'Organizing OSCE meetings is an OSCE matter. Some NATO countries are OSCE participants, but it is not my role to give advice on organizing such meetings. My responsibilities include organizing meetings of NATO member states.'

Bulgarian Foreign Minister Maria Gabriel (November 29): 'Lavrov's flight (through Bulgarian airspace) is due to the privileges granted to him, allowing him to participate in international forums... If there is a person in the delegation included in the EU sanction lists, their flight will not be allowed.'

European Commission spokesperson Eric Mamer (France) predictably couldn't find an answer to the corresponding question from the media during the briefing and recommended directing this question to the authorities of Greece.

And the one overseeing transport-related issues in the European Commission, Adalbert Jans (Poland), stated that for the press service to provide a complete answer, 'certain efforts' would be needed (do a little bit of a ballet).

The EU Council Regulation No. 2014/145/CFSP (on personal restrictions) allows EU member states, on an exceptional basis, to grant permission for the entry of even sanctioned individuals into the EU if necessary for their participation in international events under the OSCE.

Obviously, the European Commission's press service has thoroughly confused the nuances of its own carefully crafted sanction legislation.
