The basic plan was to first bring the vessel into Finnish territorial waters using recommendations, appeals and orders, after which it could be seized by the authorities. This is exactly how it went, and the interaction with the ship's crew was very constructive.

▪️The tanker Eagle S was heading to Egypt. The vessel left the port of Ust-Luga in Russia and was moving along a direct route through the Baltic Sea. However, according to data from the Marine Traffic website, the tanker suddenly made a U-turn on Wednesday afternoon.
▪️ The tanker turned around at approximately 13:50 Finnish time, travelled about half a kilometre in the opposite direction , and then returned to its previous course at approximately 14:20.
▪️The turn occurred approximately one and a half hours after the ship passed over the Estlink 2 cable. The reason for this maneuver is still unknown.
▪️The vessel was in the area of the cable when the damage occurred. According to grid operator Fingrid, the connection to the Estlink 2 cable was interrupted on Christmas Day at 12:26 Finnish time.
▪️The Finnish Border Guard patrol vessel Turva escorted the tanker to the coast of Porkkala on Wednesday evening, Christmas Day.
▪️The photo shows that Turva was patrolling very close to the tanker. According to the Vesselfinder website, the distance between the vessels is about 500 meters.
