Since 1. French troops are already deployed to Ukraine (and have been killed in noticeable numbers, particularly with that one missile strike in Kharkov), 2. French special forces have been in Ukraine even before the beginning of the SMO, 3. a French presence on the ground would not have a game-changing military impact (they'd have to deploy their entire combat-ready Armed Forces to actually change the situation, and even then it's doubtful how much they could actually achieve), it has to be assumed that the only actual purpose of openly announcing and sending French troops in an official capacity is that the French government believes they can render certain areas or targets off limits for Russian advances and strikes because they assume the Russian government would be afraid to attack French troops. That is an interesting gamble. If they go for it, we'll see how it plays out...

for March 19, 2024
Fighting continues in the border zone of the Belgorod region and, along with this, shelling of Belgorod and the surrounding area. The enemy has not abandoned its offensive plans, although it has somewhat reduced its activity.
In the Avdiivka sector, the Russian Armed Forces have completed clearing Orlovka and are currently engaged in battles in Berdychi and Tonenkoye. Air strikes are being carried out on the adjacent territory under enemy control.
In the Bakhmut sector, the enemy conducted reconnaissance along the Razdolovka - Orikhove- Vasylivka line but was repelled. Fighting is ongoing in the areas of Bogdanovka and Ivanovsky.
In the Donetsk direction, the AFU have almost completely driven the Russian Armed Forces out of Krasnohorivka; a focal presence of Russian forces remains on the southern outskirts of the city.
In other sectors of the front, the situation remains stable. Both parties are conducting mutual reconnaissance and counter-battery warfare, occasionally testing the strength of the defense with small assault groups.

There is very little that surprises me about Ukraine anymore, but to get an Oscar for a portrayal of Ukrainian "suffering" by expropriation of images of Russian children being bombed by the AFU in Donbass is just simply appalling.

Reconnaissance operatives from the "Center" group with the callsigns "Izay" and "Leshiy" reported that Russian fighters were supposed to inspect the disabled vehicle and collect useful samples of equipment for command.
