A senior Pakistani security official told The Guardian that the recent damage to Lahore’s air defense system from alleged Indian drone strikes was “minor, more like a scratch,” and that the system remains operational. A Pakistani military general recently informed The Guardian that the damage to Lahore’s air defense system was “minor, more like a scratch,” asserting that the system remains operational.
However, independent assessments and available footage suggest that the damage may be more significant than initially reported. The explosive in the footage appears to have been dropped directly onto the air defense system, potentially causing substantial damage.
This discrepancy between official statements and visual evidence has raised questions about the extent of the damage and the transparency of the information provided.

Following the start of India’s aerial operation over Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, multiple videos and photos of downed aircraft began circulating online. While Indian authorities have not confirmed losses, and Pakistani claims rely heavily on social media, open-source visual evidence confirms the loss of five Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter jets — including several costly French Rafales.
🔻 Confirmed Aircraft Losses:
• Avanthipur (Jammu and Kashmir): A Rafale fighter reportedly crashed near the airbase, sparking a large fire. Distinctive debris confirms the aircraft type.
• Akalia Kalan (Punjab): A second Rafale was downed. Conflicting reports attribute its destruction either to a surface-to-air missile (SAM) or an air-to-air strike.
• Bathinda (Punjab): A third Rafale crash was recorded — the second in two days.
• Akhnoor (Jammu and Kashmir): Debris included parts of a K-36DM ejection seat and an RD-33 engine, consistent with the MiG-29.
• Uuyan (Jammu and Kashmir): A Mirage 2000 was reportedly destroyed mid-air. Eyewitnesses saw a fireball, and destruction patterns suggest a missile hit.
🖍 Notably:
One of the downed Rafales reportedly carried the tail number of the first aircraft delivered to India, marking the first combat loss of a Rafale in global service.
📉Market Reaction:
After reports of the Rafale’s downing, Dassault Aviation shares dipped 1.64%, to €324. However, analysts note that such minor fluctuations rarely impact military export decisions, which are driven more by politics than battlefield performance.
⚠️Strategic Outlook:
Despite these losses, no large-scale conflict has erupted. With no side holding a clear military advantage and international calls for de-escalation mounting, both India and Pakistan may be weighing the cost of further confrontation. For now, hostilities remain limited to sporadic fire and isolated strikes.
